Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager, this position is responsible for expanding the merchant portfolio and increasing fee income by hunting for new business through sales calls, responding to sales referrals, new account promotions, etc. This position serves as the primary Merchant Services representative for product sales presentations and servicing support. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

Responsibilities

Responsible for a primary industry segment and maintains industry expertise for sales and retention purposes. Primarily responsible for merchant accounts with $5 - $15 million in volume. Serves as a project leader for marketing or sales promotions. Identifies and solicits by calling on eligible business prospects. Writes up all prospects calls. Accompanies Business Banking Officers or Corporate Officers on joint calls. Responsible for preparation and delivery of proposals and sales presentations. Negotiates pricing, prepares proposals, and maintains term contracts. Uses and understands the pricing model to analyze merchant volume for rates and profitability.

Establishes, maintains and expands profitable merchant relationships. Manages a specific portfolio of larger merchant accounts and is the primary merchant services contact. Retains and strengthens relationships with existing merchants. Responsible for periodic visitations. Writes up significant calls. Collects all needed information. Reviews, quality controls and processes new and additional account applications in compliance of department processes and procedures. Ensures all merchants register, completes and maintains PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance.

Reviews and processes new and additional account applications. Possesses a working knowledge of the credit policy. Makes decisions to decline a new application if business does not meet the credit criteria and there is no rationale for an exception.

Provides support in resolving EDC (Electronic Draft Capture) equipment problems. Services and maintains EDC equipment on site for merchants reporting problems or breakdowns. Possess a strong working knowledge of technology and merchant equipment. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of the terminal networks (Visanet, Envoy, Cardnet, Tandem, etc,).

Prepares/tests/installs EDC equipment and trains merchant in the usage and operation. Trains merchant on the Operating Procedures in accepting and processing Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover cards. Maintains in depth HR36350REV20170718 0 % knowledge of credit card brands (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex, etc.) rules, polices and regulations. Installs and trains merchants in the usage and operation of FDC-Link (First Data Corp-Link).

Handles inquiries and provides support to customers and branches with problems, complaints and regarding product information. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the JCB & FDC merchant platforms. Upgrades equipment on site, with new equipment. Retrieves equipment at closed merchant locations. Delivers emergency equipment/supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from and accredited institution or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 - 5 years of merchant service sales and service experience or equivalent work experience. Requires knowledge of the bankcard industry. Demonstrated ability to hunt and successfully acquire new and targeted merchants.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software, systems and equipment, including electronic draft capture terminal and printer.
  • Other Job Qualifications: Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Should have strong product knowledge, selling and negotiation skills. Demonstrated project planning and implementation experience. Must have proven customer service experience and interpersonal skills. Requires working knowledge of credit policy. Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned. Able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license, and ability to commute as required. Travels by air as required.
