About The Role

We are seeking an experienced professional in public relations and communications to join our team as the Director of Communications. As a key member of our Marketing & Communications team, the Director of Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our integrated brand promotion strategy. This position will involve media relations, advocating for our programs (including fundraising efforts), fostering external partnerships to enhance our influence and credibility, and identifying strategic communication opportunities to showcase our collective expertise. The Director of Communications will ensure that our brand presence and messaging are clear, consistent, and compelling both internally and externally. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and seasoned communications professional to make a meaningful impact at a national nonprofit organization. The Director of Communications will report directly to the Chief Development Officer.

Responsibilities

Public Relations (40%)

Develop and oversee strategic public relations campaigns to elevate our organization's brand and leadership in the field of youth mentoring and relationship-centered practices.

Collaborate closely with the development and corporate partnerships teams to highlight specific events and initiatives.

Cultivate and maintain authentic relationships with media professionals across various platforms.

Manage communications during crises and sensitive issues to protect and enhance organizational reputation.

Provide media spokesperson training and messaging development for executives and senior-level staff.

Writing / Content Development (40%)

Create compelling content for newsletters, marketing collateral, website, reports, and proposals.

Write and distribute press releases, pitches, and opinion pieces to engage with relevant media outlets.

Assist in preparing presentations and speeches for senior leaders.

Oversee the copyediting process for organizational products and collateral.

Communications Strategy (20%)

Develop and implement multi-channel communication strategies aligned with organizational priorities.

Craft integrated campaigns in collaboration with the Marketing team.

Promote organizational projects and products, including research publications and events.

Monitor and report on key performance indicators and media metrics.

Qualifications

7-10 years of relevant experience in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Journalism.

Proven track record of building relationships with media professionals.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Exceptional organizational and deadline management abilities.

Ability to collaborate effectively and manage feedback.

Experience with internal communications for nonprofit organizations or associations.

Familiarity with media distribution and monitoring software tools.

Position Expectations

This is a full-time, exempt position with a hybrid-remote setup and occasional national travel. Preference will be given to candidates in the Greater Boston area.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, commuter stipends, and generous vacation policies.
