Member Engagement Manager

Be on the team of Tulsa’s most successful and dynamic business organization as a Member Engagement Manager (MEM) for the Tulsa Regional Chamber. The Chamber seeks an ambitious, results-driven customer engagement professional to join the Chamber’s Resource Development team. This active and high-paced sales team drives the Chamber’s annual revenue goals through a consultative sales process, with high standards for customer engagement and member satisfaction.

The primary duty of the Member Engagement Manager is to generate new revenue sales by selling membership upgrades and sponsorships to existing Chamber members. The Member Engagement Manager will regularly engage with Chamber members, by phone, at Chamber events, and at their places of business to provide individualized assessment of Chamber investments and benefits. The role will also be responsible for maintaining and growing business relationships with the primary decision makers of member businesses to provide Chamber value and retain member investments. The Member Engagement Manager will support the Resource Development team in achieving year-end membership and sponsorship retention numbers and new revenue goals.

Successful MEMs are hungry and ambitious sales professionals that gain energy from developing and growing business relationships. The right candidate must be a self-starter that is highly organized and detail oriented, with excellent communication skills.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Generate revenue through the sale of memberships, upgrades, renewals of existing memberships, sponsorships, and event ticket sales.
  • Regularly conduct phone interviews and in-person meetings with Chamber members at their places of business, or at community or Chamber events, to build and maintain relationships with members in furtherance of generating revenue.
  • Identify existing Chamber members for potential growth and execute moves management strategies to successfully drive increased total investment, engagement and satisfaction.
  • Recommend Chamber investment and engagement opportunities to customers in line with their identified business and membership goals. Help members overcome business challenges and barriers to engagement by connecting them to Chamber resources and appropriate staff.
  • Engage members who are past due or have indicated that they do not wish to renew membership with an emphasis on encouraging retention and engagement in the organization.
  • Generate membership referrals and make connections with prospective members.
  • Support existing programs and develop new offerings as needed to cultivate greater engagement in the Chamber for additional revenue generation, such as sponsorship offerings, member programming and member celebrations.
  • Maintain a record of customer data and communications in the Chamber’s CRM database.
  • Attend Chamber meetings and external conferences to improve knowledge of Chamber events, opportunities, benefits and resources and leverage that knowledge to generate sales.
  • Research, develop and recommend member retention trends and best practices in the industry.
  • Inform VP of Member Engagement with emerging challenges and recommend a course of action.
  • As needed, support and develop member programming. Recruit, train and engage volunteers. Work with the Chamber’s communications and events teams to devise communications and marketing strategies for member engagement and investment.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or 2+ years’ experience in business-to-business sales, fundraising, or customer service experience required.
  • Knowledge in chamber industry or dues base/membership/nonprofit organizations beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and develop relationships.
  • Ability to leverage a structured selling and retention system to drive revenue results.
  • Self-starter and team-oriented individual with demonstrated initiative, negotiating, organizational, relationship-building and presentation skills.
  • Proficient computer knowledge in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and database management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Work environment: Normally a typical office environment with people, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, with occasional outdoor exposure to heat, cold, and environmental elements.
  • Physical demands: Manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment. Able to read, write, and interpret written documents. Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Quality management: continuously looks for ways to improve and promote quality, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Judgment – displays willingness to make independent decisions, exhibits sound judgment, makes timely decision, and accepts responsibility for results.
  • Planning/organizing: the individual prioritizes and plans work activities without supervision, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  • Safety and security: actively promotes and personally observes safety, security, and confidentiality procedures, and uses materials and equipment responsibly.

Compensation Information

Tulsa Regional Chamber's current compensation structure for the Member Engagement Manager (MEM) includes a $50,000 base salary and an opportunity to earn an additional $30,000 or more per year in monthly, quarterly and year-end bonuses for achieving individual and team production requirements. Earning potential is unlimited and tied directly to sales activity for new memberships, membership upgrades and sponsorship sales. A successful MEM who achieves monthly production goals can expect to earn $70,000 in their first 12 months, with the likelihood of a six-figure salary by year three.
