The Medical Writer will contribute to the development of effective science-based education materials and tools with the aim of advancing Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) in the USA. You will be part of a new and growing team focused on scientific and public health affairs. Your primary responsibilities of this role are to (1) author high quality medical/technical/scientific writing from planning and coordination through final written product, (2) take sophisticated science and data, and translate that into compelling stakeholder-specific education, (3) supply scientific/technical expertise and knowledge on multiple topics related to tobacco harm reduction and reduced risk products, (4) be an active collaborator across multiple functions. You will maintain high scientific standards and integrity, while adhering to all applicable regulations and procedures. What You Will Be Accountable For

  • Lead the development and execution of various high-quality written documents and materials that support the scientific and public health affairs initiatives.
  • Evaluate, interpret, and synthesize scientific/technical/medical data and information into key communication pieces.
  • Lead and provide scientific/technical/medical writing and editing expertise on scientific papers, abstracts and oral presentations, white papers, scientific reviews, opinion and position papers.
  • Support drafting of various correspondence to external scientific, public health and government bodies.
  • Create tables, figures and slides for various presentation/writing/publication initiatives that effectively communicates complex science to different audiences.
  • Track various scientific THR topics and liaise with subject matter experts to provide topline interpretation.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of THR related initiatives that impact public health policy.
  • Liaise and work effectively and productively with multiple functions while executing various projects and plans.
  • Provide oversight, lead assignments and deliverables of external scientific/technical writing vendors, as applicable.
  • Maintain current awareness of good-publication practices, editorial policies, and journal-specific guidelines and apply these to various functional publication projects.
  • Establish relationships and partner with both internal and external stakeholders across a broad set of disciplines and contexts.

Essential Experience, Skills And Knowledge

  • MS in biology, toxicology, clinical, health or social science with 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred OR post-graduate degree in biology, toxicology, clinical, health or social science with 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, such as tobacco/nicotine, pharmaceutical, and/or medical devices.
  • Strong business, medical, and/or technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capacity to quickly accumulate and apply broad, cross-functional business knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute multiple projects often under heightened time constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Candidates not meeting the specific degree requirements stated above will be considered if they have 6 years of direct experience in tobacco product development and/or preparation of pre-market applications to regulatory agencies.
