Medical Technologist, Lab Information Systems - $74.74/hr

Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Medical Technologist. The Systems Administration Unit in the new Disease Control Informatics Branch is seeking a Medical Technologist to join the Integrated Reporting, Investigation, and Surveillance (IRIS) System Administration team. Under supervision, the analyst will act as a key member to the core technical team for the IRIS System to assist with laboratory onboarding to the IRIS System, assist in mapping HL7 messages into the system, assist in implementing configurations in the IRIS System for ingesting laboratory results, review incoming laboratory results for ingestion, and perform quality assurance activities and monitoring for incoming lab results. Incumbents apply a thorough knowledge of all phases of information technology project management processes for problem identification and resolution. The right candidates possess excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate goals, plans, and engage stakeholders at all levels of the project.

The position will start immediately upon acceptance and employment clearance and is initially funded through 6/30/25 with potential renewal.

$74.74 Per Hour

Job Duties May Include

  • Analyzes, designs, and formats existing laboratory information system applications and associated test code definitions for analytical tests on human, animal, and environmental specimens.
  • Implements, modifies, and supports electronic interfaces linking the laboratory information system to other information systems or instruments.
  • Designs and formats laboratory information system applications and conducts system-verification tests to ensure the operational accuracy of data transmission related to database/client and equipment interfaces and test code reproducibility.
  • Modifies parameters of existing laboratory information applications to conform with updated test methodology or standard value ranges.
  • Develops and documents backup procedures to ensure the viability and accessibility of laboratory information and operations in the event of a system malfunction.
  • May act as liaison between the laboratory unit and other units within the department, or external agencies and clients concerning problems with the laboratory information system

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing a variety of standardized clinical laboratory tests within a specialized area or across specialty lines using manual or instrumented methodology, in a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) - certified laboratory
  • Licensed or certified by the California Department of Public Health as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Limited Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Microbiologist Scientist, or Public Health Microbiologist;
  • Working knowledge and experience using Sunquest laboratory information system; and
  • A valid Class C California Drivers License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Experience In One Or More Of These Areas

  • Analyzing, designing, and formating new or revising existing Laboratory Information System applications and associated test code definitions for analytical tests
  • Developing, designing, and formating management reports utilizing a report-writer program
  • Implementing, modifying, and supporting electronic interfaces linking the Laboratory Information System to other information systems or instruments
  • Designing and formating Laboratory Information System applications and conducting system-verification tests to ensure the operational accuracy of data transmission related to database/client and equipment interfaces and test code reproducibility
  • Modifying parameters of existing laboratory information applications to conform with updated test methodology or standard value ranges;
  • Maintaining and updating the master test file, user and client profiles, procedure and security-clearance files, and access user levels
  • Developing and documenting backup procedures to ensure the viability and accessibility of laboratory information and operations in the event of a system malfunction
