Collects, prepares and handles specimens for analysis from patients of all ages. Performs laboratory testings to aid in the diagnosis of diseases. Assist in the supervisory duties as outlined by the labs policy. Education

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Licensure/Certification/Registry

  • Registered MLS (ASCP)/MT (ASCP)

Experience

  • At least 5 years work experience as a MLS or equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Moderate physical effort.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various laboratory tests, evaluates data, and correlates results pathological and physiologic findings to determine validity of data.
  • Maintains knowledge in at least 3 areas of the lab.
  • Evaluates and calculates quality control statistics to access accuracy, reproducibility and validity of laboratory methods.
  • Independently performs analytical functions, recognizes unexpected results and takes necessary corrective action.

    • Assists in the training of newly hired medical technologists.
    • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs on sophisticated and computerized lab equipment. Calibrates laboratory instruments to assure accuracy.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and theory behind instrumentation.
    • Evaluate and/or develops new test procedures.
    • Able to write lab procedures.
    • Assures the quality and timeliness of patient results by investigating any problems
    • Recognizes unexpected results, errors and problems with patient tests.
    • Assist in the overall operation of the laboratory.
    • Maintains regulatory safety compliance.
    • Must be capable of performing all testing within all areas of the lab.
    • Assumes operational management authority for areas of the lab in the absence of lab manager.
    • Reports to work on time and meets acceptable standards for attendance. Must be able to work assigned schedule including holidays and weekends.
    • Contributes to effective customer relations by assisting patients, visitors, physicians in a timely manner.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
