We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our team. The role involves accurately abstracting provider services into billable codes from medical documentation, adhering to the ethical standards of AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS, as well as payer guidelines. Additionally, the Medical Coder will handle posting and reconciling charges, and ensure clear communication with providers and staff regarding coding issues and documentation requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Accurately abstract provider services into billable codes (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) from medical documentation, following AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS standards and payer guidelines.
Daily posting and reconciliation of charges in hospital settings (IP/OP/OBS).
Communicate coding inefficiencies and documentation issues to coding supervisor.
Utilize coding and payer resources to ensure accurate coding and billing.
Assist in resolving complex coding denials and participate in appeal processes as needed.
Engage in continuous education on coding and billing practices.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Proficiency in coding services (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) based on medical documentation and industry standards.
Strong communication skills in English; additional languages are advantageous.
Excellent customer service and phone etiquette.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet productivity standards.
Effective problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills to manage high-volume workload effectively.
Collaborative team player with a proactive and helpful attitude.
Credentials/Education/Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and/or coding.
Certification in Medical Billing and Coding highly preferred.
