We are looking for an experienced medical coding professional specializing in vascular coding to provide exceptional support to our healthcare team. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring accurate coding and charting guidance for our doctors and scribes. Proficiency with 2022 CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes, as well as familiarity with CCI edits, DRG, and modifiers, is essential. A minimum of 2 years' experience in surgical coding is required, alongside a strong grasp of human anatomy, medical terminology, and analytical thinking.
In this role, you will consult, interpret, and accurately code medical records, transcriptions, and test results, aiming to streamline our billing processes. A pleasant and professional demeanor is crucial, as you will interact directly with patients through our front office staff, ensuring a compassionate and efficient patient care experience.
Essential Functions
Research and determine appropriate coding for medical procedures related to lower extremities, both in office and surgical settings.
Stay updated with coding regulations and attend educational events to enhance coding knowledge.
Prepare summaries and assign correct codes to medical records and charts.
Collaborate with doctors, scribes, and surgery schedulers to ensure accurate medical documentation.
Capture and transcribe medical records during patient visits.
Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for clinic visits and surgical procedures.
Assist team members with coding, documentation, denials, and billing inquiries.
Adhere to clinic, hospital, and HIPAA guidelines for confidentiality and safety.
Navigate EHR systems (especially EPIC and eClinical Works) efficiently to maintain accurate patient information.
Ensure compliance with government and insurance regulations regarding code sequencing and accuracy.
Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy, clarifying information as needed.
Participate in projects and meetings as assigned by management, offering support to colleagues as required.
KNOWLEDGE And Experience
3-5 years of medical coding experience, with at least 2 years focused on surgical coding.
CPC certification preferred.
Familiarity with legal, regulatory, and compliance issues related to medical coding and billing.
High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant office software.
Minimum 2 years' experience with EHR systems, particularly EPIC or eClinical Works.
Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and medical office procedures.
