Job Overview

As the Media Strategy Supervisor, you are responsible for setting the working style for the junior team members, leading strategic planning for campaigns, and serving as a marketing partner for our clients and agency partners. This person strives to be an expert on the client’s business as well as a leader within the agency and liaison between senior management and junior team members. The Media Strategy Supervisor must demonstrate strong working knowledge of the media space across all channels and can easily identify strategic use cases for application. This person can navigate the balance between client service and fostering a positive and productive team culture.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities for the Media Supervisor lies in three key areas: Business Understanding, Strategic Leadership & Relationship Building.

Business Understanding: Serve as the specialist across client’s business with a deep understanding of their business vertical across both brand and product. It is imperative that you have a grasp of their business challenges, goals, and objectives to deliver relevant solutions and recommendations.

  • Become a specialist of our client’s businesses making it easier to serve as their key day-to-day partner; strive to deliver solutions to their business problems without being afraid to say when something didn’t work; build trust and maintain clear open communication
  • Proactively research, study, and inquire about the client vertical competition, trends, consumers, challenges, etc. to maintain a holistic view of the business
  • Look for opportunities to inject new ways of thinking into the businesses we service; introduce new channels into media mixes, and question the norm – just because it’s been done one way in the past doesn’t mean it’s the best way to continue operating in the future

Strategic Planning: Lead the development and execution of client communication strategies across campaigns delivering on key business objectives and goals. This requires data-led strategic thinking, creative and innovative problem solving, hunger to become an “expert” in client’s business, and eagerness to stay in the know on marketplace/consumer trends. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop strong understanding of client’s business and product verticals/competitors through proactive 1st and 3rd party research
  • Leverage research tools and data sources to gather and analyze information needed to provide sound and strategic consumer insight driven media recommendations
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and application of media fundamentals across various channels – TV, CTV, OLV, Digital (includes social platforms), Audio (streaming and radio), OOH, etc
  • Identify and lead media partnerships and activation opportunities that can deliver against the client’s marketing objectives.
  • Look to the latest consumer and/or marketplace trends to identify at least one new “innovative” addition to each plan put forward to clients. Innovative addition can include but not limited to new partner, channel, tactic, data usage, opportunity audience, etc

Relationship Building: Ensuring collaboration, diplomacy, and trust across 3E clients, 3E media team, 3E agency team, key media partners, and partnering agency teams. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Become an expert in client’s business so they in return, trust you and treat you as an extension of their own team
  • Serve as key voice and representative of the Media Team across all other 3E agency disciplines (Account, Creative, Strategy, Experiential, etc.); regularly attend (video on) and participate in cross-discipline meetings; champion media team’s work across agency; ensure media is a key consideration across other team’s planning phases
  • Maintain relationships with key media owners while staying up to date with new offerings and solutions
  • Set up regular reviews/one-on-ones with team members – discuss feedback, outline goals, and ensure junior team members and HMP are getting what is needed out of each other

What Success Looks Like

The Media Supervisor is successful when they are:

  • Consistently and seamlessly planning and managing client campaigns from start to finish
  • Evolving and growing the sophistication of media plans, recommendations, POV’s, etc
  • Frequently satisfying and surprising clients with new ways of thinking/planning with direct correlation to campaign success and client business growth
  • Notably growing skillset and responsibilities of junior team members
  • Seamlessly integrating and collaborating with other agency disciplines during planning

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of media planning and buying functions across both traditional and digital media
  • Client service experience
  • Comfortable with data, analytics, and measurement
  • Proven leadership ability – experience managing and growing a team of planners and assistant planners
  • Knowledge of current trends and innovations in media
  • 5-8 years of work experience in a relevant field (advertising/media)
