Description of Position: Serves as the senior mechanical engineer coordinating integration of the Command’s engineering, facilities, and infrastructure priorities through various planning and program management activities. Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders on engineering and infrastructure matters affecting the Command’s mission and provides engineering reach back support to Command Components.


Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive mechanical engineering expertise to develop the relevant engineering portions of the Command’s campaign, contingency, posture, and crisis plans and provides input to Command assessments.
  • Develops, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates plans to align mechanical engineering capabilities in support of the Command’s requirements for competition, conflict, mobilization, exercises, operations, and other contingencies.
  • Plans and implements engineering exercise scenarios and evaluates their effectiveness against the command’s mission essential task execution standards.
  • Provides senior mechanical engineering expertise on facility and infrastructure programming and investment strategies to support Command missions, objectives, and priorities.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and prioritizes facility and infrastructure project proposals and programming documents to attain compliance with statutory, regulatory, DoD, and Command policies and guidance.
  • Leads and serves on internal and external teams to review mechanical engineering and critical infrastructure policies, instructions, standards, and specifications. Analyzes various systems, relationships, and models to evaluate impacts of new policies and capabilities on critical infrastructure. Assesses climate drivers, hazards to space mission-performing assets, and reports risks.


Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques that apply to complex facility and infrastructure project planning, programming, evaluation, and coordination.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the DoD’s planning, programming, and budgeting processes; financial systems; and regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditure of appropriated funds as related to strategic planning and program management activities.
  • Skill in conducting strategic, contingency, operational, crisis, and installation planning through the lens of supporting space operations.
  • Expert skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing facts and data; forming conclusions; and communicating complex information, both orally and in writing, with tact and technical accuracy. Ability to negotiate complex issues, and maintain good working relationships with diverse groups and executive-level command management.
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative approaches to resolve unusual/difficult issues significantly impacting command-wide policies or programs; ability to solve broad organizational issues, implement strategic plans within and across organizational components, and ensure a cooperative teamwork environment.
  • Ability to devise and apply new and innovative approaches to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted and established practices and procedures.


Qualification Requirements:

  • Experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in planning, organizing, analyzing and directing mechanical engineering portion of plans and programs. Additionally, experience in coordinating and integrating mechanical engineer equities into facilities, and infrastructure priorities through various planning and program management activities.
  • Education Requirements: A Professional Engineering degree or Registered Architect at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution is required. An advanced engineering degree, such as a Masters or a PhD is preferred.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
  • Position requires drug testing: Yes
  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
  • May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
