Quala is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our service team. This is an opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art lab alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers who specialize in iterative prototyping and mechanical testing for next-generation consumer electronic devices. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on projects, prototyping, mechanical testing, test documentation, data analysis, and learning something new daily. This will be a fast-paced, hands-on, on-site role.
The primary responsibilities are the operation of testing equipment to collect fast, sound data. You will also assist in the development of new tests and provide design support, undertake tasks involving minor machining, and system and prototype assembly.
Responsibilities
Conduct testing to provide fast data and feedback to engineers and researchers, including creating and fabricating fixtures, operating a range of testing equipment, analyzing data, and generating reports.
Create 3D CAD Models for Concept Generation and design testing.
Work closely with engineering teams to build and modify prototypes
Analyze and debug issues in hardware prototypes
Maintain a clean and organized work area and lab
Communicate and proactively respond to all issues creating deviations from test or project plans along with possible remedies
Provide clear and concise documentation related to testing methods and reporting results
Provide solutions or alternative approaches to solve basic technical manufacturing problems
Independently manage time to successfully complete parallel assignments with multiple, sometimes conflicting deadlines
Communicate effectively with a diverse mix of internal customers about requirements and status of projects
Required Qualifications
3+ years of professional experience, with Associates degree or professional certification in technical or engineering field preferred; experience in a hardware or testing lab is a plus
Ability to operate hand tools (drills, drivers, Dremel etc.) and basic shop tools (press, mill, laser cutter, etc.) to alter/finish items for assembly
3+ years of CREO, SolidWorks or other CAD training/experience
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical testing and material properties
Excellent writing and communication skills
Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging research and development problems
Functional knowledge of Excel required, knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, Office & Outlook beneficial
Ability to see, recommend, and document changes in processes, fixtures, or equipment needed to improve testing yield, repeatability or reliability
Able to analyze and compile testing data from the test performed with a high degree of detail and accuracy
Ability to stand, walk, crouch around machines, and lift and carry 25lbs
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years in a mechanical testing environment; B.S. in Mechanical Engineering/related engineering field or equivalent
Have a previous track record of success executing testing, processing and summarizing test data
Extremely well organized with data, information, files, and physical spaces
Capable of designing and implementing tests at system/subsystem level
Ability to train others and document techniques for continuity
Basic knowledge of metrology tools and methods, including basic GD&T
Experience designing/building fixtures for testing/assembly
Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing
Additional hands-on experience with mechanical lab measurement equipment and advanced testing systems including lasers, test automation, load cells, high-speed cameras, data loggers, LabVIEW, and programming
