Mechanical Engineer

Advion Interchim Scientific, with NA headquarters in Ithaca, NY, designs, develops, and manufactures mass spectrometers, flash and preparative chromatography systems, chip-based ion sources and consumables for the life sciences and related industries.  We are the growing supplier of choice for our industrial and academic customers who are demanding optimized chromatography workflows, accurate mass analysis and more productive research and scale-up.  

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding team.  This position will be based in Ithaca, NY. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Performs conceptual & detailed design, analysis and verification of complex analytical laboratory mechanical, electro-mechanical instruments or assemblies using advanced principles, theories, and concepts.  
• Demonstrate mature engineering judgment in technical recommendations and develop new engineering concepts and theories pertaining to system configuration and disciplines.  
• Provide product development requirements including models/drawings, interpretation of requirements, and documentation (instructions, technical requirements specifications, bills of materials, etc.) 
• Design for manufacturing of precision machined assemblies, sheet metal fabrication, and molded parts.
• Work as part of an integrated team involving mechanical, electrical, software, and testing engineers to rapidly develop and deploy products in an Agile environment
• Provides comprehensive expert technical information concerning the mechanical aspects of the system(s).  
• Contributes to and has responsibility for completion of special project assignments. 
• Assist with the troubleshooting of existing designs for manufacturing and quality in a low-volume assembly environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Mechanical engineering degree in relevant area.
• CAD, simulation/statistic and rapid prototyping experience is a must have (Creo preferred).
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional groups in an Agile environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities, effective communication with in-house personnel, contractors and customers.
• Position is located in Ithaca, NY – Some travel to customer sites or scientific conferences (domestic and international) may be required (<10% of time).
