Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for specialty equipment development, manufacturing and maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes needs and product requirements for equipment, by either talking with management or traveling to the job site to create a design.
  • Creates an equipment design by making sketches then determines material requirements (strengths), electrical schematics and power requirements.
  • Estimates cost factors, including labor and material for purchased and fabricated parts and costs for assembly.
  • Gets approval on final cost then orders all required materials and parts for assembly.
  • Will cut, roll, shape, bend, heat or hammer metal products to fabricate parts.
  • Set up and/or operate hand tools, machine tools and welding and flame cutting equipment.
  • Assemble parts and structures by lining up and joining them by welding, bolting or riveting.
  • Follows wiring diagrams for installation of wiring and installs all meters and gauges as design requires.
  • Applies protective coatings to any unfinished metals to prevent rusting.
  • Conducts tests on completed equipment to evaluate quality and performance
  • Redesigns and modifies equipment as applications of materials warrant.
  • Diagnoses and repairs problems with specialty equipment either at company headquarters or on the job site.
  • Performs routine maintenance as required.
  • Delivers material and equipment with the company truck.
  • Follows all safety procedures and traffic laws, keeping company vehicle and work area neat and clean.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Will not pose a direct threat to other employees.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Shop Foreman & Equipment Manager.

Physical Requirements;

Infrequently means (less than 1/3 of the work day)

Frequently means (1/3 to 2/3 of the work day)

Continuously means (over 2/3 of the work day)

  • Frequently lift from 5 to 50 pounds.
  • Continuously must stand and walk performing duties.
  • Infrequently must use both feet to actuate pedals of vehicle
  • Frequently must reach above/below shoulder height.
  • Frequently must use good hand eye coordination in using tools.
  • Frequently must use moderate grip in both hands/Infrequently strong.
  • Frequently use fine finger manipulation with both hands using tools/infrequently entering information into computer.
  • Infrequently must bend or stop,working on equipment.
  • Infrequently kneel or crawl.
  • Infrequently must use peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Continuously must use near vision (correctable to 20/20)
  • Infrequently must use the ability to differentiate colors.
  • Frequently must use the ability to hear spoken voice clearly (with or without hearing aid).
  • Frequently must use comprehensible speech.
  • Infrequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Infrequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequently must use the ability to work closely with others on a team.
  • Frequently must exercise the ability to work with little or no supervision using good interpretative and judgmental skills.

IV. Essential Functions:

  • Analyze special equipment needs, creates designs for each phase, and then builds the equipment.
  • Operate all tools and machines necessary to build designed equipment.
  • Drive company vehicle.

V. Competencies Required:

  • Must be trained and certified for Confined Space entry.
  • Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing with a minimum High School diploma or Equivalent (GED).
  • Must have vocational training in understanding fluid and material characteristics with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems with a minimum of three years practical application.
  • Must have the ability to visualize how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.

VI. Special Requirements:

  • Must have good motor vehicle driving record.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical and be subject to random and for cause testing.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must have, or have access to, reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be flexible to work and travel day, night and weekends.
  • Must be available to work and stay out of town for short periods of time.
