Job Summary

The Material Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of material planning, procurement, inventory control, and supply chain management to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of materials required for production. This role is crucial for maintaining optimal inventory levels, minimizing costs, and ensuring production schedules are met.

Job Duties & Goals

  • Material Planning: Develop and implement material planning strategies to ensure the timely availability of materials for production. Forecast material requirements based on production schedules and customer demand.
  • Procurement: Source and procure materials from approved suppliers. Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure the best possible terms and pricing.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure that inventory levels are kept within established guidelines. Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
  • Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Cost Management: Identify cost-saving opportunities in material procurement and inventory management. Implement strategies to reduce material costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Supply Chain Management: Coordinate with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure seamless material flow and address any supply chain disruptions promptly.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve material management processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on material usage, inventory levels, supplier performance, and cost savings. Provide regular updates to senior management.

Interaction

High contact with all employees, managers, suppliers, and other stakeholders involved in the supply chain.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and a manufacturing plant setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing sites can be loud.

Educational/Technical Requirements

  • Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma is mandatory.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 3+ years of demonstrated expertise in material management, procurement, or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Required Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of material planning, inventory control, and procurement processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
