Manager Project Management Office

Primary Functions:

The primary role of the Manager, Project Management Office (PMO) is to lead a team of Project Managers that are responsible for customer engagements and projects which are primarily focused on logistics and transportation solutions. The Manager, Project Management Office will set governance for projects by establishing standards, process and tools to ensure effective project delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

A highly effective Manager, Project Management Office brings comprehensive understanding of service offerings and how they can be integrated into a project design as well as broad knowledge of support functions including finance, risk, information systems, operations and sales. The Manager, PMO has the ability to create and maintain relationships with internal and external Executive/Leadership stakeholders and be comfortable facilitating discussions on issue identification and resolution and be able to work across all levels of the organization and put together project teams for the successful implementation of corporate objectives. Creating a seamless set of project processes and procedures that drive and improve customer experience, requires and measures a return on investment to the organization, and improves overall efficiency of the BNSF Logistics team is essential for success in this position.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership
  • Identify, hire and train project managers to fulfill responsibilities of their role
  • Set clear expectations of the team and manage to those expectations
  • Organization and delegation of work for the team
  • Provide support on escalations to ensure resolution
  • Drive innovation and change within the team through industry best practice or as identified through project debriefs with commercial, operations or the customer
  • Perform administrative tasks for staff including assessments; scheduling; prioritization and planning.
  • As a primary goal, cultivate a positive work culture within the department, fostering connections in the team, showing empathy, encouraging candor, and celebrating success.
  1. Sales and operations interaction
  • Participate as member of leadership team to identify projects which require project management support and assign qualified team member
  • Ensure projects are operating on-time and on-budget and provide updates to clients, sales and operations through daily reporting
  • Lead periodic update meetings with operations and sales to provide status on projects and identify any projects that require special focus
  1. Planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work.
  2. Ability to respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints from both internal & external customers, creating successful outcomes
  3. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing and sales, business administration, finance, operations, and project management.
  • Equivalent to a four-year college degree, plus 4 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in PM systems, setting up and executing projects
  • PMI certification preferred.
