The Pharmacy Manager, under the direct supervision of the DOP, is responsible for the management of pharmacy operations to ensure the highest quality of services. Performs as an interim role in the absence of the DOP. The pharmacy manager is responsible for compliance of all applicable laws and regulations for the practice of pharmacy. Enforces standards & testing procedures that meet the needs of patients and physicians. Responsible for management of pharmacy staff, budget compliance, and the department's continuous effective operations, including ongoing performance improvement. The pharmacy manager will assume pharmacist in charge role.
Responsibilities
Actively participates in the implementation of strategic plans, operational goals and objectives, and business initiatives. Demonstrates strategic thinking in planning, implementing and evaluating programs tied to future growth of the operations and revenue enhancement. Serves in a staff, clinical pharmacist role when needed.
Responsible for oversight of all automation related to drug delivery (i.e. NarcVault, ADMs). Supports and manages implementation of new technology and monitors outcomes & processes.
Maintains quality improvement activities and recommends / implements changes as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for quality assurance data and participates in the collection and evaluation of quality improvement data. Monitors internal controls and seeks to resolve issues in a timely manner.
Manages the implementation and maintenance of clinical pharmacy services, ensuring optimal formulary compliance. Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed. Ensures staff adherence treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and critical pathways.
Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug interactions and reactions, and appropriateness of drug usage. Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff. Reviews the use of targeted medication to ensure compliance with current pharmacoeconomic programs.
Creates a safe work environment that fosters respect and positive morale. Effectively allocates and evaluates department work, determines required staffing levels, and provides leadership and follow through to ensure that patient care is delivered in a timely, efficient manner. Accepts responsibility for decisions and effective communication. Provides effective human resources management including hiring, firing, training, annual performance evaluations, and corrective action. Oversees duties of the Lead Technician and Pharmacist staff and remaining technical staff and pharmacy students.
Ensures all pharmacy services comply with Federal, State, TJC, DEA, FDA, and CDPH regulations so the hospital is in total compliance with all rules and regulations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Three (3) years in hospital practice emphasizing clinical pharmacy, pharmacokinetics and drug information services, with at least two (2) years previous supervisory experience.
Licensed by the CA State Board of Pharmacy
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy recognized by the California State Board of Pharmacy
Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize tasks
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization
AHA Basic Life Support
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a Manager level role
Doctor of Pharmacy and/or pharmacy residency
Master’s in business or Healthcare Administration
Pay Rate: Min - $137,300 | Max - $188,775
