Manager, Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy

Regional One Health is currently seeking a Pharmacy Manager for our Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy downtown.

Must be a licensed Pharmacist with three (3) or more years of responsible managerial experience in a hospital and/or retail pharmacy setting for consideration.

A Brief Overview

Manages the daily retail activities of Regional One Health Outpatient/Specialty Pharmacy. This position will manage and direct, through subordinate professional and technical staff, compounding and mixing all types of prescription drugs as requested by a health care provider in accordance with established practices of the profession and rules and regulations of the hospital. Work also involves managing the ordering of all supplies and equipment required and establishing and maintaining a satisfactory system of record keeping. Twenty percent (20%) of FTE will be devoted to Specialty Pharmacy.

What You Will Do

  • Plans, directs, revises and modifies pharmacy policies, protocols, standard operating procedures and turnaround times.
  • Assigns, assists with, and manages the work of a staff of professional and technical personnel in compounding, mixing and dispensing of a wide variety of drugs used for clinical therapy
  • Manages the daily operations of outpatient pharmacy locations to include the pharmacy computer system.
  • Manages Pharmacy revenue and operations budgets, and provides oversight on contractual compliance for billing purposes.
  • Responsible Apprises Pharmacy Director of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
  • Responsible to ensure adherence to all federal, state and accredited regulations including inventory of controlled substances and accurate and safe dispense of outpatient/specialty prescriptions.
  • Effectively communicates drug formulary information to all necessary internal and external partners.
  • Requisitions all necessary supplies and reviews, analyzes and becomes knowledgeable of all new pharmaceutical preparations recommended for patient use in order to be of assistance to the staff of the hospital.
  • Establishes and/or maintains an approved system of record keeping and approvals related to payroll, scheduled and unscheduled time off and staff scheduling.
  • Implements and manages protocols for monitoring and evaluating the pharmaceutical quality of patient care.
  • Investigates, makes recommendations and renders disciplinary/corrective action to resolve non-compliance with Pharmacy policies; follows-up to ensure identified non-compliance issues are not repeated.
  • Completes employee performance evaluations.
  • Participates in hospital rounding as necessary, and advises and provides assistance to hospital departmental committees in the development and management of policies and programs that involve Pharmacy.
  • Manages inventory, oversees purchasing and contractual arrangements, reconciles 3rd party pharmacy claims and supervises the patient financial assistance programs for medications.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the Joint Commission, URAC and regulatory standards for hospital compliance.
  • Manages, supervises, develops and motivates direct reports to ensure that a technically competent and productive staff exists in Pharmacy. * Selects staff. Orients, trains and develops staff to meet requirements set forth in department plan. * Coaches staff, enabling them to complete tasks in the most efficient and effective way. * Provides leadership to guide staff through changes to systems, processes and procedures. * Provides in-services and training opportunities for staff. * Supports staff in development and implementation of their individualized professional development plans. * Fosters an environment for staff to expand in their application of best practices, teamwork skills and accountability for organizational goals. * Evaluates performance and initiates and implements corrective action as required.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices, current trends, developments and maintains knowledge of national Pharmacy standards. Maintains clinical competence commensurate to areas of responsibility. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Attends in-services, educational programs, conferences and other meetings as required.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of patient information to protect individual rights to privacy in the collection and disclosure of identifiable medical information in accordance with HIPAA and other compliance standards.
  • Maintains an operational knowledge of all hospital and divisional policies and procedures.
  • Manages and evaluates the operations, quality and performance of the Regional One Health Specialty Pharmacy.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy. Required and
  • Master's Degree Residency; MBA or MS; Immunization Certified Preferred
  • Must have license as Tennessee Pharmacist Upon Hire Required
  • Three (3) or more years of responsible managerial experience in a hospital and/or retail pharmacy setting is required.
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required
