The Manager of Fleet Operations is responsible for the administrative, asset management and utilization, and personnel functions of each region for all rental and owned equipment and vehicles. Responsibilities include the daily oversight of the maintenance operations, parts, internal customer service, rentals, purchases, utilizations, and fuel usage. The Manager of Fleet Operations will work closely with all upper management in Operations to ensure efficient and effective service and productivity, improving maintenance performance in the region.


The position will require up to 30% travel between division locations.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of technicians, mechanics, and administrative services for all equipment and vehicle preventative maintenance and repair programs, including the maintenance of heavy, medium, and light-duty diesel trucks and trailers and other equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Including purchasing and rental.
  • Responsible for the safety of all personnel and property on all projects and works cooperatively with staff to ensure everyone stays committed to achieving a zero-injury safety culture by implementing all Jones Contractors Safety Principles without compromise.
  • in creating and implementing SOPs and maintenance standards.
  • keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, and EPA.
  • and ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures.
  • needed equipment repairs between shops.
  • accurate documentation and maintenance tracking.
  • all company safety policies and procedures.
  • repair costs and approve repair expenses up to an authorized limit; secure rental vehicles/equipment when required.
  • repair costs with potential warranty coverage; communicate additional warranty needs to management.
  • up on completed maintenance and repairs to ensure all service issues are resolved, vendor invoices are received, and repair/inspection documentation is obtained and filed.
  • guidance, training, and supervision of Shop Managers on maintenance standards and best practices.
  • regular inspections of maintenance shops, including working with the locations’ leadership to develop their improvement action plan. Monitor locations’ progress to annual action plans over the year.
  • with various areas of maintenance operations and planning to understand issues related to fleet reliability.
  • for adherence to department budgets.
  • in equipment purchase requirements/CAPEX requirements.
  • and provide to management the cost for repairs versus the salvage value to decide whether to repair or replace.
  • with Operations Management to understand the workloads to ensure equipment and vehicle availability.
  • when to purchase versus rent.
  • regular and preventive maintenance records of each site's assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • files of warranties, records, licenses, inspections, service agreements, and contracts for various vehicles and pieces of equipment.
  • other related duties as assigned.


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • school diploma or equivalent required.
  • or certification required.
  • in transportation logistics, or technical knowledge/training in heavy-duty mechanics required.
  • with warranty claim filing and working with original equipment manufacturers preferred.
  • experience in fleet maintenance management is required.
  • in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • and written communication skills are a must.
  • to detail and the ability to multi-task.


Certificates/Licenses:

· A valid driver’s license is required.

· Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 609 certifications preferred.
