Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's network and telecommunications infrastructure ensuring it meets our business needs while maintaining security and reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the network engineering team including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Design and implement voice and data network infrastructure that meets business requirements and ensures high performance, security, and availability.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, inventory, and configurations.
- Develop and maintain telecommunications documentation, including inventory, configurations, and call routing plans.
- Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures and implement security controls to protect against network and telecommunications security threats.
- Collaborate with other IT teams and business stakeholders to ensure network and telecommunications infrastructure supports business objectives and priorities.
- Monitor data and voice network performance and identify opportunities to optimize network performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage relationships with network and telecommunications vendors and service providers to ensure service level agreements are met and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Stay current with emerging data and voice network technologies and trends and evaluate their potential impact on the organization's network and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Maintain a close working relationship with management of all departments
- Perform other related technology duties and projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. At least 7 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong technical knowledge of network protocols, technologies, and architectures, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networking.
- Strong technical knowledge of telecommunications technologies and architectures, including voice and data networks, PBX systems, VoIP, and call center technologies.
- Experience with network security technologies and best practices, such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and access controls.
- Experience managing complex network infrastructure, including multi-site and multi-vendor environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Required to be on call 24 hours
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- May be required to work weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project management experience
- ITIL or equivalent IT service management certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Constantly working in indoor / telework conditions
- Frequently moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
- Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 15-30 pounds
- Occasionally move about the office / telework office
- Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions of the job in an office / telework environment
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
- Flexibility to achieve performance excellence in a telework arrangement
- Maintains County-issued equipment, software, data and supplies
