The Role

Agenus is seeking a dynamic and motivated Manager, HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our Manufacturing site in Emeryville, CA. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to impact our organization during a landmark period in our 25+ year history. Reporting directly to the CHRO, the Manager, HRBP will foster strong relationships with functional leaders and provide expert counsel across a range of HR disciplines including talent acquisition, performance management, career development, employee relations, and organizational planning.

This role requires onsite presence 4-5 days a week.

In The Role You Will

  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with leadership to enhance organizational capabilities, structure, and culture in preparation for our first commercial product launch.
  • Cultural Initiatives: Drive initiatives that promote learning and development, partnering with business leaders to establish robust development plans.
  • Best Practices: Integrate external perspectives and best practices into business discussions and HR decision-making processes.
  • Training & Development: Identify training needs and design or source programs to advance employee skills and career growth.
  • HR Projects: Lead and participate in HR projects, including system implementations and process improvements.
  • Employee Engagement: Implement strategies with the global HR team to boost employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Change Management: Provide coaching and support during organizational changes, ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Employee Relations: Address employee relations issues, offering guidance and resolution in line with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Positive Work Environment: Promote open communication and ensure consistent policy application to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Talent Acquisition: Partner with the Talent Acquisition team on workforce planning, intern programs, and enhancing managers’ selection skills.
  • HR Investigations: Conduct thorough HR investigations, recommending solutions that foster trust and respect.
  • Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion: Advocate for a culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion within the organization.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Oversee new hire orientation and manage offboarding processes in collaboration with the Operations Team.
  • Trusted Partner: Act as a key advisor in decision-making processes, contributing to organizational success.

Qualifications: About You

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Experience: 6-8 years of HR management experience, preferably in the life sciences industry with a focus on commercial or manufacturing environments.
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of California employment law.
  • Certifications: PHR/SPHR/SHRM preferred.
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within a team, facilitating discussions and integrating diverse perspectives.
  • Remote Work: Experience with remote teams and digital collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Adaptability: Ability to accommodate different working styles and time zones.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a track record of delivering results collaboratively.

The targeted salary range for this position is $129,000-$156,000 per year. Agenus is making a good faith effort to be transparent and accurate around our hiring ranges. The salary offered is commensurate with Agenus’s compensation philosophy and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, critical needs of the role, and internal equity.
