Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Manager, Horticultural Services to join our dynamic team. The Manager, Horticultural Services responsibilities include Coordinate, oversee, and manage services related to Horticulture at Southern Land Company's new master planned community Storyvale located in Nolensville, TN.

As our next master-planned community in Williamson County, Tennessee, Storyvale will transform 372 acres into a pedestrian-friendly, amenity-rich community, featuring more than 700 homes of various sizes, designs, and styles, ranging from townhomes to estate homes on one-half acre lots. All of the homes will be designed by SLC’s internal architecture team with unique landscaping designed by SLC’s in-house landscape architecture team.

Approximately 160 acres of land will be reserved for parks and open spaces. The development will include several miles of trails that will one day connect to Nolensville’s trails and greenways system. A village will feature approximately 15,000 square feet of commercial space for future restaurants, retail, and services, all of which will be open to the greater Nolensville community. Additionally, there will be an amenity park featuring a swimming pool and recreational offerings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • New project management from design through completion
  • Procurement and selection of plant material
  • Evaluation (vetting) of the subcontractor for new installation and maintenance
  • Monitor all jobs to assess profitability and progress
  • Review all jobs to ensure installation is in accordance to SLC standards
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency pertaining to all hours and time worked
  • Collaborate with appropriate departments within SLC
  • Work and perform as a cohesive unit with the Landscape Architecture team
  • Work and perform to receive projects in a timely manner with the Construction team
  • Work and perform to provide measurable results within a reasonable timeframe with the HOA
  • Establish/maintain contact with selected subcontractor during installation and maintenance
  • Critical awareness of communication within Horticulture to ensure cohesion and flow
  • Development of open dialog to facilitate proper sequencing and dispel miscommunication
  • Regular inspection of properties to ensure SLC Horticulture standards
  • Develop execution reviews for all installation and maintenance tasks performed
  • Travel as needed/requested by the SLC Director of Horticulture
  • Design, create, and coordinate seasonal displays and installation
  • Determine and perform any/all final finishes on all open spaces
  • Understand and review monthly/yearly financial budgets and make necessary adjustments

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight, leadership and direction for all associated external vendors, contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers
  • Delegate appropriate tasks and requests as issued by the Director of Horticulture

Required Education And Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree, 4-year program or equivalent in Horticulture and/or Horticulture related field
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Any specialized training including or related to: Irrigation, Greenhouse Management, Pest Control/IPM, Grounds Maintenance, Arborist, Landscape Design
