JOB SUMMARY

Manages all pre/post-award grant and contracts operations. Oversees, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for pre/post-award duties to ensure compliance of internal and external procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  • Possesses and applies extensive knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and laws governing sponsored programs.
  • Negotiation: Ability to analyze and cultivate best alternative to negotiate by building rapport, actively listening and asking good questions in searching for smart trade-offs.
  • Leadership: Ability to direct and contribute to initiatives and processes within the organization while creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows.
  • Project Management: Effective project management, planning and organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Communication: Superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively exchange information with stakeholders.
  • Ethical Practice: Ability to integrate core values, integrity, and accountability throughout all organizational and business practices.
  • Computing Acumen: Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Job Duties

  • Management and oversight of pre/post-award processes that include reviewing and approving activity for professional staff.
  • Assigns duties to personnel and oversees work in progress for all pre/post-award activities.
  • Provides internal/ external training for all pre/post-award activities.
  • Provides guidance to the institution, faculty, and staff for proposal submission requirements including interpreting sponsor and institutional guidelines.
  • Provides policy and procedure interpretation to academic departments and prepares specialized reports to federal and sponsoring agencies.
  • Manages staff to include interviewing, hiring and training of employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in employment status; handling complaints/ grievances and disciplining when necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required; MBA or Master's degree is preferred
  • Seven (7) years related experience to include two (2) years in a supervisory or management role is required
  • Demonstrated experience with NIH and other federal grants
  • Prior work with NIH contracts
  • Budget forecasting and resource management
  • Risk forecasting/management
  • Prepare NIH grant Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR)
  • Knowledge they would like them to have:

  • Strategic thinking for budgetary planning and resource management
  • Ability to work on multiple sub-contracts across multiple institutions
