Position Overview:

The Merchant Building. This project is a transformational development, in a public private partnership with the City of Columbus, located in the heart of Columbus, Ohio. The work is the designing and constructing of a new 32 story high-rise development consisting of expansion of the historic North Market, a Luxury Hotel, a parking garage, a Club and Spa, and both loft style and luxury Apartments.

As part of the Owner\Development team and under the general direction of responsibility of the Owner’s onsite Project Director, the Clerk of the Works will coordinate, monitor, analyze and maintain records at the construction site in an orderly manner, being responsible for assuring standards, compliance and consistency in accordance with Owner’s contracts with Construction Manager, Architect of Record and any other vendors. Keeping detailed “records of work” including preparation of Logs, reviewing invoicing, tracking specific contract reporting required of the Project ‘s Construction Manager and provide correspondence to Owner\Developer where applicable for specific contract documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain job-site files, documents, reports, and daily log; prepare periodic reports for Owner\Developer
  • Provide your work and analyses upstream to Project Director and Project Executive
  • Review supplemental contract documents, logs, records, forms, Contractor cost reports, material and labor documentation, estimates, items of change, test results, notices and other project information as assigned by Owner’s Project Executive
  • Review and validate composition of Contractor change requests and Architect additional services requests
  • Able to maintain work logs, site diaries, together with compiling and monitoring status reports
  • Review components of requests for progress payments, invoicing as assigned by Owner’s Project Executive or onsite Project Director
  • Review components of contractor reports, forms as assigned by Owners Project Executive or onsite Project Director


Candidate Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in business or science studies
  • Working knowledge of building components, systems and construction processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
  • Must be able to wear/use personal approved protective equipment as required on the construction site
  • Strong knowledge of building and construction
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and superior problem-solving abilities
