The Manager of Business Development is responsible for innovating and leading management and overall partner experience to ensure substantial and profitable growth through our BD team. This role will manage and develop the Digital Account Specialist (DAS) team, set and communicate performance targets, and provide coaching and training to team members.

How You’ll Do It

  • Lead and develop a team of Digital Account Specialists
    • Conduct team meetings/1x1s and provide day-to-day support/guidance as needed to fellow DAS team members.
    • Provide coaching and assistance to help direct reports meet or exceed performance expectations.
    • Communicate set BD strategies to direct reports and ensure alignment between the work the BD team is doing and the team's OKRs.
    • Recruit, hire, train, and retain top DAS talent.
    • Collaborate with the team to understand and identify solutions to daily challenges. Escalate accordingly leveraging qualitative and quantitative feedback.
    • Manage all inbound lead flow and assigned agencies with the digital territory.
    • Lead team members against KPIs.
    • Identify and execute innovative ways to reach one to many without compromising results.
    • Mentor, develop, and grow team members for future needs and operational excellence.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with the following departments: Marketing, Underwriting, and Customer Service
  • Tracking and reporting performance metrics and industry trends
    • Pull and analyze reports used to update and clarify direct reports' day-to-day activity goals to meet the monthly: Acquisition, Onboarding, Engagement, Submission, and Bind goals.
    • Monitor and report progress on the department's OKRs quarterly.
    • Provide Ad Hoc reporting and data to the BD leadership team as requested.
    • Track team's numbers of call reports and meetings held reports.
    • Monitoring and reporting on various pilot program progress.
    • Develop and track experiments utilizing Agile Methodology.
  • Strategic Process Improvement
    • Continued building of best practices to exceed the team's KPIs.
    • Assist in the constant improvement and scalability of the BD team(s).
    • Other projects and duties as required.
    • Drive partner engagement through strategic initiatives.
    • Proactively identify and implement initiatives designed to maximize partner engagement

The Right Stuff

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with some college coursework is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant sales experience is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience leading a Sales, Sales Development, or Business Development team is required.
  • Intermediate communication (written, verbal, and presentation) skills, to deliver complex information effectively and align people with the needs of the project/team.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills to manage complex tasks and work through solutions with little guidance and direction.
  • Intermediate awareness of workflow and project tradeoffs to make decisions based on needs now and into the future.
  • Basic leadership skills and experience leading work groups or task forces in specific projects.
  • G-Suite Tools, Collaboration tools (slack is preferred), basic office machines, sales cadencing tools, and reporting tools.
  • Intermediate sales skills with a consistent track record in achieving/exceeding targets in a closing role; relevant experience in developing new business relationships, overcoming objectives, and presenting sales solutions/products to new clients.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.


This is an incentive pay-based position and as such, there is no guaranteed commission amount. The on-target earnings (OTE) for this role are approximately $190,000 and are based on successfully meeting performance expectations.

Base Compensation Range

$110,000—$135,000 USD

Location Information

Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
