Maintenance Technician

Reports To: Executive Director & Director of Facilities

Location: Plymouth, NH

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall upkeep and safety protocols of our buildings and facilities. The Maintenance Technician will perform routine and preventative maintenance to preserve the physical integrity of Mount Prospect Academy (MPA) facilities. The position conducts residential maintenance repairs and is responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of property grounds, facilities, streets, equipment, and various utility systems. Some tasks can include drywall repair, door and hinge repair, fire drills, working with external vendors, facility checklists and walkthroughs for safety, flooring, painting, vendor management, vehicle maintenance, etc. There are two facilities this position will be responsible for within a 5-mile distance. One is an 18-bed home for students, and the other is the school they attend daily with up to 25 students. The maintenance technician always provides excellent customer service to faculty and residents and may assist with other miscellaneous duties required to ensure the integrity of MPA properties and equipment.

MPA has evolved to offer a variety of mental health support services to a diverse population of “hard to treat” and “difficult to place” adolescents. Our targeted services include home and community-based treatment, residential treatment programs, group homes, and special education schools. Summary:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs to all facility and grounds as needed.
  • Complete checklist of physical condition of the site weekly for routine maintenance and improvement.
  • Ensures that all lawns are manicured appropriately.
    • Regularly treats for weeds, Rake leaves, plants trees or other foliage, trims shrubs and hedges, cuts and removes damaged tree limbs, and performs other lawn care services as necessary.
  • Ensures buildings, grounds, and facilities are always presentable and inviting.
  • Assist with management of service contractors.
  • Inspect recreational amenities to ensure all is in good condition, making minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintain vehicles and or other equipment as needed and within abilities.
  • Follows safety procedures while performing duties, including safely operating vehicles when moving from site to site and picking up supplies.
  • Keeps vehicle records, vehicles properly gassed, and ensures vehicles are up to compliance.
  • Communicates daily with program administration and other staff.
  • Provides on-call support to the program for all physical facility related issues, and any emergency issues that arise at any time.
  • All maintenance related tasks including flooring, building damage repair, electrical and heating, painting, plumbing, air conditioning, safety inspection, and any other maintenance related issues.
  • Review maintenance request log daily and ensure items are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Fire safety protocol followed and managed according to fire safety compliance.
  • Oversee contract work as needed.
  • Upkeep of the property as needed, snow removal, gardening, lawn mowing, etc.
  • Management of the locks and keys for the building.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Some high school education required
  • Previous maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and broad experience in general maintenance tasks, techniques, and repair work
  • Ability to endure seasonal temperatures as working conditions require constant outdoor work
  • General janitorial work, plumbing, electrical, and ground maintenance required
  • Proficient skills in handling and operating hand tools, power equipment, and commercial machinery
  • Ability to provide legible written reports
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Basic computer efficiency including email, internet, and shared company websites
  • Available to respond to emergency maintenance needs during non-business hours while on-call
