Summary

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor for a homeless shelter in Brentwood. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the upkeep of both the interior and exterior of the property. The Maintenance Supervisor will repair and maintain the facility structure and equipment in compliance with Suffolk County regulations. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the maintenance and housekeeping staff, including staffing, scheduling, and performance management.

Responsibilities

  • The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee staff, including recruitment, hiring, training, developing, and conducting supervision and performance appraisals.
  • Provide on-call support, including shift coverage when necessary.
  • Independently triage work orders based on urgency, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously and prioritize effectively.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with external vendors.
  • The Maintenance Supervisor will ensure that the facility meets all required inspections, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled safety checks externally and internally throughout the building, including all equipment. Perform scheduled repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory documentation as well as repair logs.
  • Purchase building maintenance materials and supplies.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems; perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • The Maintenance Supervisor will prepare rooms for occupancy, including hanging sheet rock, spackle, painting, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform basic electrical and structural repairs or installations.
  • Perform mid-level plumbing duties including snaking lines, removing, and installing toilets, and repairing leaking pipes in ceilings, walls or under countertops.
  • Communication timely, with the Operations Manager regarding needs for repairs or replacement of equipment or furniture.
  • Maintain a clean, neat work area and keep materials and tools organized.
  • Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
  • Maintaining the exterior of the property by blowing leaves, picking up trash and debris, sweeping, trimming, weeding, and removing snow and ice.
  • Interface with facility management to ensure ongoing communications regarding issues and problems.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience performing building maintenance and repairs required.

Prior experience in electrical, plumbing, spackle and paint, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, and grounds keeping required.

Knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements preferred.

OSHA training or certification strongly preferred.

Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills Required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, required.

Knowledge of Facilities Management software preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to pick up and carry a minimum of 50 lbs., be able to work overhead and on a ladder for sustained periods of time, and to bend and crouch to install flooring or seal tubs and toilets. Must be able to shovel snow from walkways. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
