Essential Job Functions

Participate in the plant's preventive maintenance program by performing routine maintenance duties for the Maintenance Manager.

Keep track of spare parts as they are used and complete a usage report in order to replace items as necessary. Assist in physical inventories.

Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.

Set up and operate machine shop tools in the performance of all machine work to close tolerances. Align and balance rotating equipment.

Inspect and repair turbines, valves, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, and similar equipment.

Assemble and repair tubing, piping, valves and fittings subjected to both high and low temperature or high and low pressure.

Assemble, disassemble, repair and adjust all types of electrical and mechanical equipment.

Complete other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager.

Capable of qualifying to operate a forklift and manlift.

Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.

Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times.

Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities

The Maintenance Mechanic operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. The Maintenance Mechanic encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.

The Maintenance Mechanic must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, and in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Maintenance Mechanic must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Maintenance Mechanic must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer’s needs are being met.

Education And Experience

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Four years experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or equivalent required. Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. Experience in turbines, valves, pumps, welding, or machining highly desirable.

Bending/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, stoop or kneel down to work with equipment or materials. Must be able to work in confined spaces.

Stair/Ladder Climbing: Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders on equipment at the plant. Must be able to walk on platforms at high altitudes (80 feet or higher)

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and pull or push equipment or materials. Moderate over-head reaching and lifting and grasping is necessary.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use phone system.

Working Conditions

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. Willingness to accept after hours call-outs is required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. Position will require a pre-employment physical examination and random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
