Maintenance Engineer
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Maintenance Engineer plans and schedules all maintenance work including day-to-day activities, one-day outages, and
major shutdowns. Also drives reliability by identifying, determining scope, and executing projects. In addition, the incumbent
provides leadership and coaching to the maintenance team in driving them to achieve work objectives and performance
standards.
II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan all maintenance work orders including:
Walk down jobs and develop scope of work
Evaluate jobs to assure it can be executed in a safe manner
Develop bill of materials for job scopes
Procure necessary parts to execute jobs
Stage parts for jobs
Estimate Client needs
Define and schedule outside service contractor needs for jobs
Provide all necessary manuals, drawings, or other information necessary to execute jobs
Schedule all planned maintenance work including:
Define priorities for jobs with Production Coordinator
Document jobs on maintenance schedule
Accurately maintain the maintenance schedule
Manage maintenance department activities and costs through transactions within the CMMS (SAP)
Move work orders through the system from submission through scheduling
Financially close work orders through time transactions
Provide the leadership to move the maintenance department and overall plant to world class
performance
Lead the effort for a zero recordable record/safety performance of the maintenance department
Improve communication between maintenance department and all other departments at the plant
Evaluate storeroom inventory needs (stock materials including minimum and maximum stocking levels)
Work with project engineers to effectively leverage maintenance resources in the execution of small
capital projects
Assist in execution of emergency work
Improve communication between the maintenance department and all other departments at the plant.

Assist, as needed, in execution of emergency work.
Provide backup (vacations, illness, etc.) for the Technical Manager.

III. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCES:
Education: Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering Bachelor's degree. Alternatively, an
Associate's Degree or High School Diploma with commensurate experience.
Experience:
Basic requirements
Requires working knowledge of chemical plant equipment (pumps, piping, heat exchangers,
vessels, instrumentation, etc.) along with a background in maintenance and repair of this
equipment in order to effectively plan daily maintenance department actives.
Additional requirements for commensurate experience based on education:
High school diploma requires:
¦ 5+ years in maintenance/project planning and scheduling.
¦ 5+ years in maintenance and/or projects in order to have in-depth knowledge of
equipment and parts used in a manufacturing facility
¦ 3+ years' experience working in an MRO stores or 2+ years ordering industrial supplies,
equipment and parts
¦ 5+ years' experience in an industrial, production environment
Associates degree requires:
¦ 3+ years in maintenance planning and scheduling.
¦ 3+ years in maintenance and/or projects in order to have in-depth knowledge of
equipment and parts used in a manufacturing facility
¦ 1+ years' experience working in an MRO stores or 2+ years ordering industrial supplies,
equipment and parts
¦ 3+ years' experience in an industrial, production environment
Bachelor's degree requires no additional requirements beyond the basic level. However a degree in
engineering or technology is preferred in order to facilitate both efficient execution of daily activities and
effective system improvements.
Skills:
Excellent organizational skills for planning all maintenance work and excellent verbal and written
communication skills for facilitating cooperation with all other departments.
Excellent skills using MS Excel and working knowledge of MS Word. Knowledge of G-mail, MS
PowerPoint, Google Apps and general understanding of databases is desirable
Proven skills in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
Working knowledge of Computer Based Maintenance Management Systems (SAP knowledge a plus)
Must be able to use a fork lift regularly
IV. HSE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health Safety & Environmental
Fully participate in plant HSE initiatives.
Set safety compliance expectations for maintenance work through effective planning; communicate
expectations and assure adherence.
Ensure that required inspections of safety critical equipment are properly scheduled and completed.

Supervise staff and contractors that are hazardous and universal waste generators to assure
compliance with all applicable Client, local, and federal requirements.
Has the authority to stop maintenance work, if necessary, in order to address HSE concerns
Lead the effort for a zero recordable record/safety performance of the maintenance department.
A person who reports to facility management is designated and accountable for discharge prevention.
Quality Systems
This position must support and participate in all ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSSC 22000, and HACCP programs.
Food Safety
Asserts control of risks related to the product, including but not limited to adherence to HAACP program,
customer specifications, and understanding and ensuring employees follow standard operating procedures.
