The Magazine Managing Editor helps execute communication of the ministry’s core message to the world at large through Answers magazine (the quarterly publication of Answers in Genesis) and Kids Answers (the children’s periodical of Answers in Genesis).
The Magazine Managing Editor manages day-to-day deadlines and deliverables for Answers and KidsAnswers, coordinating with the production manager, editor in chief, writers, copy editors, and design staff to execute and oversee the editorial processes, including proposals, research, writing, and editing to ensure publication quality and accuracy consistent with Answers in Genesis standards.
This position is also accountable for displaying our Core Values of SERVE to ensure that the message and mission of Answers in Genesis is portrayed in an effective and God-honoring fashion.
Responsibilities
Acquire and edit department content to meet all associated deadlines
Work with the editor in chief and editorial team to plan department articles.
Secure authors for Answers and Kids Answers.
Compose and send out assignments, after receiving approval from the editor in chief.
Work with outside writers and reviewers, editing articles according to AiG editorial standards and ensuring the process moves efficiently.
Maintain and replenish a stockpile of future department articles, article concepts, and news articles.
Edit all department articles.
Proofread all final content.
Write copy as needed
Help write various minor copy, including captions, headlines, sidebars, and article descriptions.
Research and write science and culture news perspectives.
Research and write occasional articles for the magazine.
Edit Kids Answers blog content.
Assist the editor in chief in the long-term execution and growth efforts of the magazine
Help identify and recruit qualified writers and content reviewers in agreement with the Answers in Genesis Statement of Faith.
Build, maintain, and nurture relationships with authors, both in-house and those external to the organization.
Assist in writing, compiling, and evaluating/reporting on surveys designed to better understand the needs and desires of Answers and Kids Answers subscribers.
Process audio and digital versions of Answers and Kids Answers magazines, manage contest submissions, and attend trade and developmental conferences.
Interface with web and audio teams as needed to ensure that the digital and audio editions of Answers and Kids Answers magazines are created and uploaded to the web by deadline.
Enter Answers and Kids Answers magazines for possible awards at various conferences, such as the Evangelical Press Association, after consultation with the magazine team.
Must be willing to travel periodically to represent Answers in Genesis at trade and developmental conferences, as well as the annual Evangelical Press Association awards ceremony.

Requirements
Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.
Maintains a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Regular attendance at a local Bible-believing church
A strong understanding of and support for the core beliefs and messaging of Answers in Genesis
Working knowledge of creation/evolution issues
Working knowledge of presuppositional apologetics, especially in relation to young-earth/biblical creation
Strong project management skills
Exceptional editing and interpersonal communication skills
Exceptional writing skills
Ability to effectively balance multiple projects and strict deadlines
Ability and willingness to carry out editorial mandates
Creativity to generate new ideas for future issues and articles
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
Experience writing for young readers, a plus
Competence with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and InCopy
Ability to give and receive criticism with a graceful spirit
Must be able to work on-site at Answers in Genesis
Education & Experience
BA in English, journalism, or related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in editing, writing, and/or publishing
Strong knowledge of science and Bible topics
