Machinist, Level 5

We are a growing organization seeking a talented Machinist, Level 5 to join our team as a pivotal member here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA.

The Machinist Level 5 is responsible to provide expertise in several areas, including but not limited to journeyman knowledge of the operation and skilled use of machine tools.

The wage for this position is $55.11/hour. The compensation listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Job Summary
The Machinist Level 5 is responsible to provide expertise in several areas, including but not limited to journeyman knowledge of the operation and skilled use of machine tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates various refinery equipment such as drill press, hydraulic press, forklift, overhead and carry deck cranes, aerial lift, manual lathes and milling machines.
- Repairs/overhauls refinery machinery in both shop and field environments.
- Inspects and troubleshoots machinery problems in the field.
- Builds or modifies parts for repairs as necessary.
- Maintains housekeeping in work areas according to Company standards.
- Possesses a commitment to Safety and Safe Work Practices. Works safely and follows all Safety Policies.
- Sustains high quality work, prevent rework, and support reliable operation.
Basic/Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Rotating Equipment or related experience, which could include experience as a machinist, millwright, or pump mechanic.
- Demonstrated experience operating shop machinery (lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc.)
- Ability to perform close tolerance mechanical/machine work and close tolerance assembly.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on all types of pumps, turbines, and compressors.
- Understanding of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
- Able to read prints and use precision measurement instruments, operate lathes, milling machines, and balance machines.
- Ability to perform laser shaft to shaft and multi train alignments
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and shop or vendor drawings.
- Understanding of balancing various types of rotors and shafts.
- Understanding of mechanical seal system installation, testing, operation, start-up and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work while donned in a variety of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities in all weather conditions.
- Willing and able to work overtime, various shifts, and weekends and holidays as required.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather at times.
- Ability to work in a Team environment with other Mechanical, Operations and Engineering personnel.
- Ability to work alone as well as function as a Team member.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written.
- Must be self- motivated with willing to acquire and utilize new and/or additional skills.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completed Machinist Journeyman Program preferred
- Associates, MCCER certification in the millwright discipline or trade school degree in Machine/Machine Tool Technology preferred.
