Machine Operator - 3-Axis Router

Facility: 11 Forest Parkway, Shelton, CT

Department: PDU (Portable Distribution Unit)

Hours: 40 hours a week / 7:00 am – 3:30 pm- (with possible overtime & weekend work)

The 3-Axis CNC Router uses a manufacturing method that automates the control, movement and precision of the router through the use of preprogrammed computer software resulting in the exact placement of openings in both PDU (portable distribution unit) and sheet metal sub-assemblies. The primary duties of the 3-Axis Machine Operator are to select the program, set-up, load and run, unload and maintain the machine.

Responsibilities

  • Work with production supervisor to meet daily/weekly/monthly production goals.
  • Perform daily inspection of the machine to make sure it is running properly (no leaks, no noise, etc.)
  • Ensure that the correct product is in place for production schedules.
  • Set up and run 3-Axis CNC Router (Multicam).
  • Work with computer-controlled equipment to make sure its set up properly, working well and producing quality product.
  • Inspect product for defects (first piece) and to ensure final product meets production and quality standards.
  • Correct product defects as soon as possible and report issues to supervisors.
  • Interact with Production Supervisor and line assemblers on any issues that may arise.
  • Route sub-assembly parts through the production cycle.
  • Clean and deburr sub-assembly parts for production.
  • Operate chop saw to cut scrap.
  • Operate various pneumatic and power tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of the 3-Axis router and vacuum.
  • Perform end of shift tasks such as cleaning and organizing the area for the next shift or the next day.
  • Ensure raw material quantity is on hand to meet production needs and inform supervisor when there are inadequate quantities.
  • Perform all tasks while complying with company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
  • Provide daily production updates to the shop floor manager by entering electronic labor and job order information.
  • Maintain an attendance in good standing so that production is as efficient as possible.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Participate in routine practices and team projects relating to LEAN, 5S, Scrap, Safety, Quality, etc.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned


Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or any other equivalent diploma.
  • 2+ years’ experience working with 3-Axis/5-Axis routers.
  • 2+ years working in a production department (electrical parts experience preferable).
  • Knowledge of ENROUTE software a plus.
  • Experience with manual and electric shop tools needed.
  • Ability to problem solve when the machine is not at peak performance, and to develop ways to increase output and/or fix errors.
  • An understanding of and the ability to operate the computer program that controls the 3-Axis machine operations as well as the ability to work with CAD/CAM technology is needed.
  • Understanding and experience in working with Bills of Materials, routings, cycle count, the function of inventory control and order processing is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use calipers for measuring.
  • Ability to manage time and stay on top of production schedules.
  • Basic computer data entry skills.
  • Ability to maintain data to accomplish company production strategies and goals.
  • Ability to work within production teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment is necessary.
  • Experience in adapting to the work environment.
  • Effective organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated, effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast paced work environment while meeting production standards.
  • Knowledge of maintaining records for ISO, AS9100, etc., preferred.
  • Ability to follow all Lex and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance of a work attendance record in good standing in order to meet customer order requirements.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted throughout the day.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist actions.
  • Ability to wear protective gear such as face, hand/arm, head and body protection (leather gloves, leather apron, gauntlets, safety glasses with side shields, welder’s helmet and/or welder’s goggles as needed).
