The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, seeks student-centered, collaborative, and innovative educators to serve as the Lower School STEAM Integrator in grades K-3.

The Lower School STEAM Integrator (grades K-3)

The Lower School STEAM Integrator is a creative and innovative educator who, in addition to teaching students to proficiently and comfortably use age-appropriate technological tools, helps them integrate STEAM skills and concepts to enrich their curriculum experience. Aware of young children's natural curiosity and creativity, the STEAM Integrator encourages students to take creative risks, persist in problem-solving, and think divergently, all while supporting hands-on experiential learning. Reporting to the Head of Lower School and the LS Science Department Head, this community member participates fully in the life of the Lower School and Chapin

The ideal Lower School STEAM candidate is a dynamic and collaborative educator with a strong knowledge of early elementary child development and grade-appropriate content. This innovative educator will contribute to developing a STEAM vision in the lower school, leveraging their expertise in current technology, maker-centered learning, computer programming, and robotics. They enjoy the exuberance and curiosity of children and possess a solid understanding of their social and emotional development. Excellent leadership and collaboration skills are critical, as this position requires close work with grade-level teachers and other content-area specialists.

Chapin’s Lower School STEAM Integrator Will Be

An educator with a maker mindset who demonstrates knowledge of various hardware, software, and integration tools who-

  • Cultivates students’ inquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills while encouraging a maker mindset.
  • Collaborates with lower school faculty across the division.
  • Identifies and provides strategic professional development to enhance teacher technology skills and understanding of robotics.
  • Works with the K-12 tech team and lower school leadership to ensure consistency and continuity between divisions.

An educator who demonstrates a commitment to innovation and interdisciplinary curriculum development and who:

  • Advocates for and supports the integration of technology into the classroom curriculum while working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Designs and implements an innovative, interactive, and evolving K-3 technology curriculum with a strong focus on computational thinking, programming logic, digital fluency, and citizenship.
  • Is a reflective practitioner who creates high-quality, engaging learning experiences centered on intellectual exploration and joyful discovery.

A student-centered educator who values each child’s voice, experience, and history who:

  • Understands and appreciates the Lower School learner within the context of early childhood development
  • Demonstrates effective pedagogy, particularly in response to the needs of students with a variety of backgrounds, learning needs, and interests
  • Employs research-based strategies to reach all students through differentiated approaches, mindful of students’ interests, learning needs and wellbeing
  • Develops and maintains a joyful, productive, and hands-on learning experience, building relationships with students and cultivating a community of belonging

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum two years of STEAM experience with elementary school-aged children
  • Commitment to DEIB/Culturally Responsive Practice
  • Broad knowledge of computer science education, including age-appropriate programming languages, curricula, computer functionality, and educational technology tools including, but not limited to: Seesaw, Google Suite, Canva, block-based coding (ie: Scratch), robotics (ie: Beebots, mBots)
  • Ability to thrive with independence and autonomy
  • Strong planning and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree Preferred in a field related to STEAM education
  • Experience working with ISTE standards
  • Experience utilizing Project Based Learning and Design Thinking
  • Experience with Responsive Classroom
  • Experience with Veracross
  • Demonstrate a passion for and recognize the importance of an all-girls setting

Compensation: The compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience, the range is $68,000-$120,000
