Logistic Coordinator

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Logistics Coordinator to join their team in El Paso, TX

Job Purpose: This position reports directly to the Logistics Supervisor and under general direction will be responsible for scheduling and dispatching carrier loads by coordinating, planning and assigning quoted shipments to specific contract carriers. Administrative representation for dispatch. While also performing general dispatch duties to support the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Logistics Coordinator provides guidance for their location managing workflow/task execution and the integration of all functions to the site.
  • Act as 2nd to the supervisor designated dispatch staff.
  • Will cover any open shift or person when necessary to cover for staff due to unexpected occurrences, etc.
  • Monitors and validates the accuracy of entries into the TMW TruckMate system, including filing and maintaining paperwork associated with TMW entries.
  • Ensure the safe, timely and professional passage of shipments from shipper to consignee by assigning contracted carriers chosen by Logistics Manager
  • Responsible in following Carrier Routing and Load Tendering Instructions for every truckload shipment (FTL) processed. May handle less then truck load (LTL) shipments but will be handled as “needed basis” through direction of Logistics Manager.
  • Acts as point of contact for carrier’s dispatch departments (provides customer service and load details including schedule carrier pick-ups)
  • TruckMate, PC miler, and any Transportation Management System is preferred
  • Monitors each carrier’s on-time deliveries, equipment availability, ensuring equipment is properly maintained in order to ensure no mechanical break downs or delayed deliveries
  • Must be able to follow written instruction, write clearly, and communicate well at all level. Knowledge with Forwarding, Brokerage, and a 3PL environment preferred
  • Troubleshoot issues that may arise during shipment while communicating with Mgr.
  • Provide an “End of Shift” with open items, exceptions, issues, etc. for the supervisor and Managers.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in coaching, counseling and conflict resolution.
  • May perform other support staff functions as requested by Supervisor or Manager

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge related to the department functions
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with customers, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of upper management and have excellent written and verbal communication skills, bilingual is a plus.
  • Must be able to manage and lead a diverse workforce
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Attention to detail
  • Brokerage, Freight Forwarder, 3PL Training preferred
  • 1-year prior experience brokering freight, with a current customer base, desired.
  • Must have a working knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to brokering, shipping and receiving freight.
  • Ability to work graveyard hours, weekends, holidays, and OT- flexibility of schedule is a must.
  • Requires proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.

  • Must be able to work in a Distribution Center environment with a variation of temperatures.
