Local Trade Control Manager

Oerlikon Huntersville, NC

We are looking for a Trade Control Manager for Oerlikon Additive Manufacturing at our Huntersville, NC facility. The employee in this role is responsible for trade compliance, export controls and restrictions, and supply chain security programs. This position reports to the Legal Entity President, General Manager or equivalent and indirectly reports to the Regional Trade Control Manager.

Your Responsibilities

  • Trade Control Compliance through process development and implementation
  • Continuous development of the company´s ICP and TCP
  • Conduct trainings and assessments
  • Management of or participation in projects and internal working groups
  • Contacts with authorities as needed
  • Close alignment with local management team, Regional Trade Control Manager and corporate functions
  • Stop right to any transactions within the business
  • Manages local policies and procedures in compliance with national, local export control regulation, and other competent export regulations if applicable
  • Liaises with international colleagues and government agencies/officials to ensure optimum benefits and minimal liabilities in the export compliance area
  • Manages direct or indirect personnel who directly oversee daily order processing/shipment activities
  • Provides technical direction to Oerlikon Additive Manufacturing engaged in international business activities impacted by foreign or domestic import/export regulations in the location
  • Sets direction for export compliance issues and assess risks for the legal regulation
  • Liaison with senior managers internally on export compliance
  • Drives process improvements for the legal regulation within Export Control
  • Represents Oerlikon Additive Manufacturing with high level government officials in the country if not done by General Management
  • Approves local company policy, supporting documents, etc. for documentation, record retention
  • Provides direction and operational impact to governmental representative on licensing regulations within the national legal regulation with RTCM
  • Is legally empowered in writing by the applicant to sign license applications or other requests for approval on behalf of the applicant
  • Understands the provisions and requirements of the various export control statutes and regulations, and the criminal liability, civil liability and administrative penalties for violating the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations
  • Implementing internal Trade Control programs
  • Identifying risks and mitigating damages
  • Trade Controls awareness training for all functions


Your Profile

  • University degree or equivalent in engineering, or foreign trade, economics, law (alternatively)
  • Minimum of 5 years of current experience in international trade control environment of a globally acting US high-tech enterprise (preferably defense/aerospace)
  • Proven attendance of multiple certified export control seminars and courses
  • Excellent knowledge of ITAR, EAR and OFAC regulations
  • Familiarity with import restrictions/prohibitions and C-TPAT
  • Proven success in the implementation of internal control systems
  • Option to obtain USG clearance for classified information (if required)
  • Detailed knowledge of the prevailing regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC)
  • Ability to describe complex processes/circumstances (process descriptions, work instructions)
  • Capability to teach trainees on all hierarchical levels
  • Self-motivated and target-oriented work style
  • Excellent technical understanding
  • High social and intercultural competence
  • Flexibility and mobility (incl. international travel)
  • Fluency in the English language other languages desired
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art IT systems (both ERP and add-ons) for trade compliance (SAP/GTS)
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations is required
  • Ability to set the example, be approachable, decisive, compassionate, and provide feedback
