Live Audio Engineer and Sound Instructor

The Live Audio Engineering and Sound Design Instructor will be responsible for the instruction of all technical aspects of live audio engineering and sound during live performances, such as concerts, theater productions, assemblies, in-house events, and all events taking place in one of our three performances spaces. The instructor is also responsible for teaching sound design and studio design courses.

We have a state-of-the-art facility and learning environment that includes a recording studio and sound design classroom. We are seeking a transformational educator capable of elevating our students' learning experience and generating excitement in the classroom in accordance with our curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

The instructor is expected to teach audio students some of the following skills, techniques, and practices to include:

• Sound Reinforcement: How to set up and operate sound reinforcement systems, including microphones, amplifiers, speakers, and signal processing equipment, to achieve clear and balanced audio for live events.
• System Calibration: Calibrate and tune audio systems to the acoustics of the venue, ensuring optimal sound quality and coverage throughout the space.
• Mixing and Balancing: Mix and balance the sound of different instruments, vocals, and audio sources in real time during live performances. This involves adjusting levels, equalization, and effects to achieve a cohesive and pleasing audio blend.
• Monitor Mixing: Manage monitor mixes for performers on stage, ensuring they can hear themselves and other band members. This may involve creating individual monitor mixes tailored to each performer's preferences.
• Troubleshooting: Quickly identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to sound equipment, cables, or connectivity during live events to minimize disruptions. Be prepared to respond quickly to unexpected challenges or emergencies, such as equipment failures or sudden changes in the program.
• Collaboration with Performers: Communicate effectively with musicians, performers, and event organizers to understand their audio requirements and preferences.
• Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment, ensuring it is in proper working condition. This includes routine checks and repairs as needed.
• Sound Check: Conduct sound checks before events and productions to fine-tune the audio system, addressing any issues and ensuring a smooth and balanced sound during the actual performance.
• Adaptability: Adapt to different genres of music, performance styles, and venue characteristics to deliver optimal sound experiences for a diverse range of events.
• Time Management: Effectively manage time during live events, coordinating cues, transitions, and adjustments seamlessly to maintain a consistent and high-quality audio experience.
  
  

In addition to digital/analog audio engineering of live or recorded sound, the candidate must prove proficiency in reproduction and reinforcement of Acoustical soloists and ensembles. When engineering Acoustic solo voice, Chorus, solo instrument, orchestra, wind ensemble or any other combination of acoustic groups, engineer must maintain the acoustic integrity of the original sound during reproduction or recording. The highest level of etiquette is expected.

Qualifications And Skills

• 8-10 years of live audio engineering experience, 2-5 years of teaching experience.
• Must be a highly skilled, creative, out-of-the-box thinker, able to problem solve and work well under pressure.
• Highly committed to their tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating dedication and a strong work ethic in all aspects of the role.
• Adapts well to change, thrives in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines efficiently.
• Proven experience working with a diverse student population and demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity, possessing the ability to effectively engage and support students from various backgrounds with different needs.
  
  

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time-Extended production hours to include evenings/Saturdays.

SALARY: $65,000-$70,000
