Design Services Group, DSG, is a design & lighting engineering firm that is a subsidiary to Associated Wholesale Grocers who is the nation's largest cooperative food wholesaler who assists our member-retailers with savings on cost of goods and services.


DSG is searching for an individual who has project management experience within the retail lighting industry with a background in lighting sales to join the DSG team as a Design Specialist!

The Design Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of lighting projects from beginning to end and with direct responsibility for project execution to ensure projects are being completed in a given time frame. The specialist will be accountable for projects’ site audits, replacement lighting system design, material list generating, the work schedule, cost estimating, material ordering & tracking, along with post-delivery follow-up & warranty follow-up.


Fast Paced & Travel Required.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical analysis/review for lighting system solution projects.
  • Conducts computer generated photometric models for the purposes of designing an adequately lit environment.
  • Determines efficiency of existing lighting systems and controls to meet all codes.
  • Monitors rebate opportunities and helps apply for and recover rebate money.
  • Negotiates and orders required lighting system materials and outside purchases.
  • Solicits competitive pricing and executes vendor rebate programs.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communication with staff, as needed, providing customer feedback.
  • Applies extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Responsible for review of lighting engineer’s contract documents for best practices, accuracy, and preferred specifications. (Preparation of drawings, design and layout of lighting systems, electrical requirements, specifications, proposal preparations, execution of purchase orders & payments.)
  • Provides engineering direction and support to other team members.
  • Responsible for the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
  • Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects.
  • Communicates with customers and their representatives, including building owners, and other project trades.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns & implementing solutions.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience & 5 years of lighting experience.
  • Software proficiency in AutoCAD, AGI 32, Visual (or equal), Microsoft Office; Revit is highly desired.
  • Knowledge & experience with interior lighting systems, exterior lighting systems, electrical power system support of lighting systems, and proficient with using space and exterior photometric analysis design software.
  • Knowledge of building electrical and energy codes.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
