Job Overview

The Lieutenant plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the protection, safeguarding and security of NYRA assets, employees, invitees and others by the uniform force; Actively assist the Captain, Senior Director of Security and Chief of Security in supervising the work of the uniform force; in the absence of the Captain, assumes those duties.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct supervision to the Desk Sergeant, overseeing desk operation and that activities are conducted in a lawful and efficient manner.
  • Monitors all accountable equipment, ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of all equipment issued to uniform officers.
  • Directs contact with subordinates in the field conducting periodic inspections of the personnel assigned to him or her as well as the security posts and general condition of the facility.
  • Works with the Captain and the Chief of Security to formulate plans for the most efficient and economical ways to operate and control the varied duties of the uniformed force.
  • Reviews objectives, accomplishments, activities and future plans for the uniformed force.
  • Keeps the Captain and the Chief of Security informed of critical developments concerning security at all NYRA tracks.
  • Interviews Uniform members for evaluation and constructive criticism.
  • Maintains records for the accurate evaluation of Uniform members under his command and prepares evaluation of their performance.
  • Conducts investigations of complaints against personnel and makes their findings the subject of a report to the Chief of Security.
  • Conducts inspections of personnel under their command and NYRA facilities as directed by the Chief of Security.
  • Confers with Uniformed supervisors to promote uniformity, understanding of purpose and efficiency in all phases of operations.
  • Supervises the investigation of any serious crime, incident or accidents on NYRA property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Education (minimum): Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: 8-to-10 years of experience in law enforcement or security.
  • Other Requirements: N.Y.S. Certified Peace Officer; Supervisory experience; Willingness to work all tours as assigned which involves midnights, weekends, holidays, at Aqueduct/Belmont or Saratoga.
