POSITION SUMMARY
The media specialist provides students and staff with information and instructional assistance in the use of current research technology, Internet, on-line services and traditional library materials and assists with management of the school-wide library media computerized material records systems. The media specialist performs the daily routine operations of the media center, is knowledgeable on use of instructional audio-visual equipment, and participates in a wide variety of school media center activities. Media specialists may give work direction to student aides and parent volunteers and help in the orientation and training of new media assistants. Work involves performing media center duties and requires considerable technical skill, the ability to learn independently, when necessary, new software in the media center, and the ability to communicate this knowledge to students and staff. Employees in this position are required to learn media center procedures, to be detail-oriented, and to assume partial responsibility for the routine operations of the media center.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (Minimum Qualifications)
Have a high school diploma or the equivalent;
Be at least 18 years of age; and
Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal state, or local academic assessment or para-educator certificate program, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing: Reading, writing, and mathematics; or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate (Assessment is offered by District).
Elementary School Library / Technology experience
Have standards of moral character as required of teachers (OAR 584-005-0005).
Preferred Qualifications
1-2 years experience working with students in a school environment.
Some college coursework.
Compensation
Wage Schedule: $19.02 - $24.35 per hour

JCSD 509-J pays the employee's share (6%) of the Public Employees Retirement System Contribution
