POSITION TITLE

Librarian

Job Description Summary

The Librarian is directly supervised by the School Principal and is responsible for planning, adapting, and/or providing instruction to students in order to enable them to effectively and efficiently access text and electronic resources.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze requests of staff and students to determine needed information and assist in furnishing or locating information.
  • Teach library patrons to search for information using databases.
  • Keep records of circulation and materials in Destiny database.
  • Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies to stakeholders.
  • Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems.
  • Develop information access aids such as indexes and annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, and on-line tutorials.
  • Plan and deliver client-centered programs and services, storytelling for children, newsletters, or programs.
  • Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access.
  • Collaborate with teachers across contents to co-teach lessons and/or provide resources to enhance student learning.
  • Provides a safe environment for students.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with building and district staff.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's or school's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals

Education Required

  • Bachelor's Degree

Certification/Licensure Required

DETERMINE CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE OR INSERT REQUIREMENTS

  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Certification in Library Science

(Must obtain 24 additional credits within six years of hire to obtain permanent certification)

This job posting is not a component of the School-Based Professional Internal Transfer Season. Current Pittsburgh Public School employees who are school-based professionals (teachers, librarian, counselors, social workers, etc.) are not eligible to apply to this position.
