Job Description
We are seeking a Professional Liability Claims Advisor with a minimum of 5 years of CA Liability experience and at least 3 years of Medical Malpractice experience to join our team.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required
Juris Doctorate is a plus, but not required
Experience
Significant experience in Medical Malpractice (MedMal) practice
Experience working with MedMal Carriers
Experience as a MedMal defense attorney is ideal
Responsibilities
As a Professional Liability Claims Advisor, you will:
Analyze complex or technically difficult healthcare, environmental, management, executive, cyber, professional liability, errors and omissions, and complex liability claims.
Provide resolution for highly complex and/or severe injury claims.
Coordinate case management within company standards, industry best practices, and specific client service requirements.
Manage total claim costs while delivering high levels of customer service.
Essential Functions
Investigate and process complex or technically difficult medical professional liability claims.
Conduct or assign thorough investigations and provide detailed reports on new events, claims, and legal actions.
Negotiate claim settlements up to the designated authority level.
Calculate and assign timely and appropriate reserves to claims, monitoring reserve adequacy throughout the claim life.
Recommend settlement strategies and present structured settlement proposals as necessary.
Perform coverage analysis and provide opinions as part of the claim process, including all necessary correspondence.
Coordinate legal defense by assigning attorneys, supporting investigations, and reviewing attorney invoices.
Utilize cost containment techniques, including strategic vendor partnerships, to reduce overall claim costs.
Identify opportunities for fraud investigation, subrogation, contribution, recovery, and case management to reduce total claim cost.
Represent the company in depositions, mediations, and trial monitoring as needed.
Communicate claim activity and processing with clients, maintaining professional client relationships.
Ensure claim files are properly documented and coded correctly.
Refer cases to supervisors and management as appropriate.
Delegate work and mentor others.
Additional Functions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel as required.
Skills & Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of medical malpractice insurance principles and laws.
Expertise in medical malpractice claims management.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
Exceptional organizational and negotiation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to meet or exceed performance competencies.
