Join Our Team as an LGBT Advocate for Domestic and Sexual Violence Support


Position Overview: Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence? In Our Own Voices, Inc. is seeking a dedicated LGBT Advocate DV/SA to provide vital services and activities to help victims understand the dynamics of victimization and stabilize their lives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver immediate crisis intervention hotline counseling.
  • Assist clients in securing and maintaining appropriate housing.
  • Provide information and referrals for general assistance.
  • Oversee grant objectives and outcomes.


Primary Duties:

  • Uphold the mission of In Our Own Voices.
  • Collaborate with IOOV team members to support clients affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Coordinate safe shelter, information and referrals, safety planning, and legal counseling and advocacy.
  • Maintain written case notes and staff the LGBT domestic violence referral line.
  • Offer training and technical assistance to mainstream victim service providers.
  • Participate in local and statewide task forces.
  • Facilitate support groups and alternative healing workshops.
  • Submit documentation and reports as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all programming aspects.
  • Collaborate with community partners for culturally relevant services and resources.


Qualifications:

  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling (MSW preferred).
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers.
  • Paid case management and counseling experience.
  • Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, or related issues.
  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ people of color community issues.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in social services and the court system.
  • Creative and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Preferred:
  • Two+ years of experience working with domestic and sexual violence survivors.
  • A 4-year degree (additional experience may substitute for a degree).

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-directed and solution-oriented.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and work ethics.
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of boundaries in relation to subordinates.
