Or client, a global leader in the manufacturing of tools and equipment in the vehicle repair, aerospace, military, natural resources, and manufacturing sector, is seeking an attorney as Legal Counsel, Employment.
Counsel will have the following responsibilities:
Provide accurate, timely, and proactive advice across all business groups supporting the company’s Human Resources function on topics ranging from employment and labor relations policies, contracting, safety, training, and litigation prevention and management, among others.
Research, evaluate and proactively advise on employment and labor law matters inherent in business and operations, with the goal of providing practical advice.
Optimize and oversee projects, including litigation, assigned to outside counsel.
Assist and collaborate with others in the Legal Department on complex agreements and projects, development of internal policies, and matters relating to compliance with applicable laws.
Attend business reviews and other business-related meetings and functions in order to build relationships within the business, and to better understand the company’s business.
Travel as necessary to perform duties (not expected to be extensive).
Perform other duties as may from time-to-time be determined appropriate.
Experience and Characteristics:
The successful candidate will likely have the following background:
Graduation from undergraduate and law schools of quality with good academic achievement.
Good standing license to practice law in any state in the United States.
Three or more years of experience, preferably with an emphasis on employment matters, which could include litigation, employment handbook development, training, union negotiations and arbitrations, and other employment/labor matters as might be encountered in a manufacturing environment.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as a team member with Legal Department colleagues, internal staff, outside counsel, and business associates at all levels of the company.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Self-directed with the ability to discern when direction is needed or when a question needs to be asked.
High standards of professional ethics; acts with integrity and takes responsibility.
Ability to listen to different perspectives from colleagues, business unit management and outside counsel while still exercising individual judgment and articulating an individual point of view.
