As Logistics Counsel, you identify significant legal issues and provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal support to various business stakeholders of the company’s Smart Logistics (SL) business.


Responsibilities:


  • Draft, review, and negotiate the full range of legal documents relating to various claims and logistics services-related agreements, including warehouse management agreements and transportation agreements for multiple modes of transportation.
  • Primarily, this position will provide legal advice for the resolution of logistics claims, including those arising out of warehouse operations and transportation, develop and maintain SOPs for claims processes, help file claims with relevant insurance carriers, and mitigate legal risks by ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to SL business.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert to provide interpretation and explanation of contracts, applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to claims.
  • Represent SL Legal in internal and external meetings, and communicate accordingly with third-party bodies such as customers, vendors, partners, outside counsel, auditors, and insurance brokers/carriers.
  • Develop and distribute key reports and analyses, including claim reports and ad hoc reports for management.
  • Deliver training and training materials to the business on key legal areas.
  • Work within company guidelines to review, analyze, and negotiate contractual agreements with customers, shippers, consignees, or carriers.
  • Escalate and coordinate with External Claims Adjusters (e.g., cargo/freight forwarders insurance carriers, etc.) to resolve claims issues.
  • Could you help in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for logistics processes and claims.
  • Develop, prepare, and implement claims litigation strategy, including affecting settlements and insurance coverage limits.
  • Work toward the resolution of claims files and attend arbitrations, mediations, or trials as necessary.




Qualifications:


  • Juris Doctorate Degree required.
  • An active member of Texas bar license in good standing.
  • At least 6 years of relevant legal working experience, particularly in transportation/ warehouse/ maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
  • Must work in the Logistics Company or Logistics Industry to review Logistics Claims, not a regular Insurance company’s background .
  • At least 6 years of relevant legal working experience, particularly in trucks/trailers, cargo/freight damages, property damages, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
  • Able to produce reports to support findings and analyses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and web-based applications, claims platform.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate information clearly and understandably.
  • Travel %: up to 10% throughout the U.S.
