Experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal Opportunity

A well-respected family law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their dynamic team in Royal Oak, Michigan. This role offers an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills and contribute to the success of a leading boutique practice.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of litigation support experience, with a proven ability to multitask effectively, superior time management skills, and a passion for thriving in a busy, team-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills, professionalism, responsibility, creative thinking, and a commitment to client success are essential.

Key Responsibilities

File Management:

  • Drafting pleadings, correspondence, and discovery documentation
  • Managing confidential legal documentation and correspondence
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in paper and electronic filing systems
  • Providing support to attorneys to enhance case effectiveness
  • Preparing for trials by organizing exhibits and assisting with related tasks
  • Demonstrating excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Time And Calendar Management

  • Scheduling client appointments, hearings (phone, video, and in-person)
  • Docketing timelines and due dates
  • Maintaining attorney calendars, checking for conflicts, and notifying clients
  • Proactively managing deadlines and keeping attorneys informed

Professional Communication

  • Possessing excellent grammar, proofreading, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication with attorneys, clients, and staff
  • Familiarity with legal procedures, protocols, and the court system
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion

Team Collaboration

  • Working well independently and as part of a team
  • Completing tasks in a timely and professional manner
  • Knowledge of day-to-day operations in a legal office
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and work under pressure

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, including asset/liability sheets)
  • Experience with e-filing and general filing procedures
  • Skilled in using legal research tools and case management software
  • Familiarity with family law procedures, legal terminology, and court rules
  • Clio experience is preferred

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal in a litigation firm
  • Prior experience in Family Law is a significant advantage
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution is preferred but not required
  • Meeting the criteria outlined above is essential
