This position is for a Legal Assistant to undertake new client intake and onboarding and a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of Personal Injury paralegals. This position will be under the supervision of the Lead Paralegal in the New York office and work in support of all activities the office engages in. The ideal candidate must be motivated, detail oriented and experienced in the legal industry.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Meet in person with personal injury clients in the greater NYC area, predominately Spanish speaking, for intake and onboarding
Assist paralegals with managing high volume civil litigation cases, primarily involving high-value, catastrophic personal injuries.
Assist in the preparation and filing of legal documents.
Assist in drafting pleadings, notices (deposition, and otherwise), and propounding and responding to discovery.
Draft and process incoming and outgoing correspondence.
Provide administrative assistance to attorneys, including managing calendars and deadlines.
Act as a liaison among all parties including court or other neutrals for scheduling and sharing information.
Schedule, confirm and assist attorneys in preparation for depositions.
Prepare materials for review by expert witnesses and consultants.
Research case-related factual issues using in-house files and outside reference sources.
Assist in preparing for court proceedings.
Organize and maintain electronic case files within the company software/case management system (experience and knowledge of Smart Advocate software a plus); and
Qualifications
Other duties as required.
Associate’s degree preferred.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Technical Skills
Understand legal terminology and documentation.
Detail oriented, team-player, positive, energetic, kind, well-spoken with excellent customer service skills.
Perform well in a high level fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Skilled with computers and software as well as organized.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Outlook, Word), Adobe Acrobat Pro; and
Demonstrate good ethics, judgment and maintain the confidentiality of files.
Physical Requirements And Work Conditions
Regular attendance and availability during normal business hours are required. (8:30 am – 5:00 pm). In person required. No remote.
Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment.
