Qualifications

  • Valid Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience*
  • Teacher leadership experience
  • Ability to work positively and collaboratively with all members of the professional learning community
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The word, successful, implies that the professional has exhibited the ability to employ effective learning strategies using student evidence/data to plan instruction and understands how to respond in the learning process using the growth mindset philosophy.

Nature and Scope of Job

The Learning Coach is an integral part of the professional learning community and focuses on student achievement and growth. Using his or her expertise in content and instruction, as well as child and adult learning theory, the Learning Coach collaborates with teachers, building administrator(s), and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to further student learning and teacher practice. Collaboration and school day-embedded professional development is founded in research-based coaching best practices. The learning coach will partner with teachers and focus on using data and student work to analyze student learning and collaborate to make informed decisions about instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers, individually and in teams, in reaching their goals for students using a coaching cycle process.
  • Partners with teachers to design learning that is based on specific goals and objectives for student learning.
  • Work with the professional learning community to analyze student data, determine learning needs, and identify/implement research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps.
  • Promote a culture of learning through coaching practices that include demonstration teaching, co-teaching, collaborative planning, analysis of student work, analysis of formative assessment data, observation and feedback, and study groups.
  • Furthers student learning and teaching practices by providing professional development to be determined including but not limited to the school day, after school and during the summer.
  • Establish relationships of mutual trust, respect, and freedom of expression with all members of the professional learning community.
  • Work teachers, principals, and the Director of Teaching and Learning to assess the effectiveness of the coaching process in the school, making adjustments as warranted.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development. (first year coaches-includes PLC Summer Institute)
  • Meets on a regular basis with the Director of Teaching and Learning.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning and/or principal.

These responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by the Learning Coach.

This is not a supervisory position nor does it include participating in the evaluation of colleagues.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in inside environmental conditions. The employee occasionally works evenings or weekends. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoors weather conditions and works with the use of their personal vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Employment Terms

  • Salary and benefits per collective bargaining agreement.
  • Work Year - 180 regularly contracted days; plus 10 additional days paid per diem.
