Veratis Advisors, Inc.

Lead Retirement Plan Consultant

Position Overview:

Veratis Advisors is hiring a lead retirement plan consultant to fill an integral client-facing role within our retirement plan advisory team. This is a strong opportunity to join a progressive and growing firm that prioritizes a team approach to strategy development and firm management, a healthy and enjoyable work environment, and consistent excellence for our clients.

The intent is for this person to become a firm partner over time and contribute to our ownership team’s long-term goal of Veratis remaining an independent, enduring enterprise for many decades to come. Our target market segment is mid and large-market retirement plans, and we have built solutions over our 23-year history that are competitive in these market segments (e.g., custom target date portfolios).

We are known in the industry for maintaining our focus on quality (service and solutions) in a way that is increasingly differentiating - because we understand the impact of our work on others. Therefore, we do not pressure our retirement plan consultants to sell and maintain client loads that are unhealthy for our team and would negatively impact the quality of our work.

We are also passionate about educating participant populations - either directly for plans of a certain size, or through strategy development and oversight for larger plans. Therefore, this person must have an appreciation for the importance of this work and an interest in spending a portion of their time working with clients to support participant decision-making.

Additional Information About Our Firm:

  • Independence - We are a fee-only, SEC-registered RIA with no parent company or obligation to serve anyone other than our clients and one another. We are committed to maintaining our independence into the future to ensure that we control the quality of our solutions and the environment for our team.
  • Team Environment - Our advisory group operates as a cohesive unit. As such, any candidate for this position will have input on firm-level decisions and innovation over time. Additionally, we are a team working to evolve at a pace that allows us to maintain our standards, and we are looking for talented people to be a part of the firm’s evolution.
  • Support - This consultant will not be entering an environment where there is high competition among the advisory team. In fact, our wealth and corporate retirement plan teams work closely together to serve clients, uncover opportunities, and enhance our service offerings. Additionally, this person will receive strong support upfront and ongoing from two consultants with 25+ years of retirement plan experience.

More About the Role:

This position is suited for those that will enjoy working directly with Veratis team members, corporate clients, and other third parties (record-keeping firms, ERISA attorneys, etc.) while diligently seeking to optimize retirement plan arrangements. A foundation in retirement plans and fiduciary considerations is a must, and continued knowledge building is required to be successful at Veratis. Our firm has proprietary processes that have been developed over many years, however, this new lead retirement plan consultant will be encouraged to bring their knowledge and experience to the table.

Responsibilities include…

  • Providing strong strategic oversight of the various elements of our client’s retirement plan arrangements
  • Guiding clients through provider due diligence processes, plan design projects, etc.
  • Engaging directly with plan participants (for certain clients) and building education strategies for larger clients
  • Establishing relationships with prospective clients and centers of influence
  • Building a book of clients by responding to proposal requests and leading or participating in proposal presentations
  • Assisting with client onboarding (conversion planning, oversight, etc.)
  • Delivering Veratis’s proprietary plan reporting materials in committee meetings
  • Training retirement plan committee members in investment and non-investment areas
  • Participating in the firm’s investment due diligence process (this person may be considered for membership on Veratis’s Investment Committee)
  • Participating in firm-level management and innovation

Additional Considerations:

  • Compensation and Benefits - Veratis offers a competitive base salary and the opportunity to earn an annual incentive bonus based on firm and individual performance. The initial compensation range will be dependent on a combination of factors that include experience, knowledge, team fit, and a candidate’s ability to continue working with pre-existing clients they may have (not a requirement). Our target base pay range for a new lead consultant is $120,000 to $160,000, but our leadership team is willing to adjust if the right candidate justifies pay outside of this range. Regarding non-cash benefits, Veratis offers a competitive 401(k) match, health coverage, and PTO.
  • Flexibility - Our overall goal with flexibility is to strike the appropriate balance that allows our people to thrive and for our company to optimally perform - at the same time. To set expectations, an appropriate level of office presence should be expected since our work often requires a high degree of collaboration. However, we all enjoy the flexibility to work from home or adjust schedules as a part of our goal to achieve more optimal work/life balance.
  • Timing - Our leadership intends to find an ideal fit for our firm, and we are willing to wait for the right candidate. With this said, this is an open position, and we can and will move fast if the situation warrants.
  • Confidentiality - Please know that the application and due diligence process will be held in strict confidence, and Veratis will not contact any professional references without the applicant knowing in advance.

Requirements / Preferences:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of client-facing retirement plan experience
  • Strong retirement plan technical skills and investment knowledge
  • Retirement plan or investment designations are valued, but not required
  • Strong presentation and strategic thinking skills
  • Proficient software skills (Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Character priorities:
  1. First and foremost, we focus on the quality of the person - a selfish mindset will not fit in.
  2. We value team members who have an engaging personality, a passion for doing things the right way, are self- motivated, have the ability to both think and work independently (for certain responsibilities), and enjoy working collaboratively on a team.

If you do not meet all of the requirements (e.g., less than five years of experience), but you are a fit for this position overall, please proceed with applying and explain your reasoning in the cover letter of your application.

Application Instructions:

  • Please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining why you feel it would be in our mutual best interests to consider you for this role.
  • In the cover letter, please list two professional references.
