Lead Economic Researcher

Nasdaq has an opening for a Lead Economic Researcher in our Economic Research (ER) department in Philadelphia, PA. The ER team provides highly quantitative, analytical expertise to all Nasdaq business lines, locations, and levels of management. We are looking for a new member to partner with the Data Access and Analytics (DAA) product team to help develop data products and insights for global market operators based on the robust experience Nasdaq has operating data driven markets. These products could range from market KPIs for executives to developing tools that use generative AI to highlight market trends.

ER Analysts become experts in quantitative analysis, analytics, pricing, financial products, market microstructure, financial regulation, and exchange competition. ER analysts have frequent contact with all levels of management, customers, and regulators, providing excellent opportunities for advancement. You will work on projects from start to end and focus on delivering high quality insights. You will partner with key stakeholders across the organization to inform business and product decisions and learn about Nasdaq’s broad array of products. A typical day will include

  • Analyzing large, complex data sets
  • Discovering business opportunities and threats, and developing innovative responses
  • Handling the most challenging customer and regulatory inquiries
  • Continuously extending our knowledge of the financial industry and sharing it with colleagues throughout the company
  • Presenting results to management, customers, and regulators
  • Partnering closely with product teams and specifically the Data Access and Analytics (DAA) product team
  • Creating new analytical models to power ongoing insights via BI tools
  • Leveraging insights and knowledge Nasdaq has that other market operators could benefit from as part of the DAA offering

Required:

  • Bachelors degrees in an analytical, quantitative or STEM field
  • Experience using SQL
  • Analytic programming experience or evidence of the ability to develop these skills rapidly (e.g., R, Python, or etc)
  • Highly motivated with evidence of intellectual curiosity and creativity

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in quantitative field
  • 5 years+ experience working in quantitative roles
  • Experience using modern analytic packages or evidence of the ability to develop these skills rapidly (e.g., statistical and machine learning libraries, Spark)
  • Well organized and able to complete multiple projects at once
  • Experience using data visualization tools, such as (e.g. Tableau, QuickSight, etc.)
  • Ability to respond productively to a heavy workload and tight deadlines
  • Extremely effective communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Track record of working successfully both independently and with a team
  • Familiarity with dbt is a plus
  • Experience with AWS AI/ML technologies such as Bedrock, SageMaker, or Q is a plus

This position offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment (2 days a week in office), providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
