Lead Design Engineer

Airswift is working in partnership with a leading engineering company in the heat transfer and combustion industry, who is now ready to invest in a results-driven Lead Design Engineer to join the team and expand the design and engineering capabilities of the Mechanical Design group.


We are looking for a professional with a proven track record and the ability to lead a small team of engineers and designers on multiple projects simultaneously, providing hands-on leadership and mentorship within the design team. The sucessful candidate will also have design and review equipment experience for refinery, petrochemical, or similar heavy industrial plants, performing and overseeing structural calculations.

Candidate Profile:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience with equipment design for refinery, petrochem, or similar heavy industrial plants.
  • Heavy steel structure design familiarity with wind & seismic loadings.
  • Familiarity with design and construction standards such as ASME, AWS, ASTM, ASCE, and AISC.
  • Proficiency with performing, reporting, and checking mechanical/structural calculations.
  • Familiarity with general arrangement drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, demolition drawings, erection drawings, and other drawings.
  • Knowledge of industry standard checking procedures and ability to oversee and check design work.
  • Coordinating group efforts within a small design team to accomplish customer-oriented project goals.
  • Working directly with customersincluding, for example, in-person and virtual design reviews, construction planning meetings, site visits, etc.
  • Desire to learn and problem solve.


Duties & Responsabilities:


  • Lead the Mechanical Design group, focused on efficiency and expanding the group’s capabilities.
  • Perform and check others’ mechanical and/or structural calculations.
  • Solve challenging problems that involve investigative problem solving, require clever ingenuity, and demand simultaneous big-picture thinking and small detail precision.
  • Mechanically design complex oil and gas equipment, including heavy steel structures such as fired heaters, boilers, auxiliary equipment, and support structures.
  • Develop design standards and tools to effectively meet project requirements, resolve problems, and continually improve internal design processes.
  • Collaborate with sales, execution, process engineering, external manufacturing companies, and customers to understand market needs and constraints while balancing company objectives.
  • Perform field surveys and design work, including: ascertain current equipment conditions, measurement of existing equipment, communicate with customer personnel and direct construction work.
