Lynn is a seaside urban district located on Boston’s north shore. The city is known for its contemporary public art, historic architecture, downtown cultural district, and public parks and open spaces, which include the oceanfront Lynn Shore Reservation and Lynn Woods Reservation. Home to an international population, Lynn Public Schools services almost 17,000 students across 18 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 comprehensive high schools, 1 vocational school, and 1 alternative Jr/Sr high school. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Strong demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English and Spanish.
  • Basic knowledge of district practices, processes, policies, community resources and counseling/social work practices with high risk populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated leadership, time management, and organizational skills
  • Sensitivity and understanding of working in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work under pressure: highly adaptable and flexible
  • Experience working with persons in crisis.
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Adobe, and Social Services Data Collection programs and methods.

SKILLS And RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Confirm target population including families living in motels/hotels, families living doubled up and families in stabilization services.
  • Maintain and prioritize a database of families in need of services.
  • Work closely with LHAND Case Manager and United Way Mass Bay and Merrimack Valley as part of a project team.
  • Work closely with homeless families.
  • Act as liaison with outside agencies that provide services.
  • Set up regular case conferences.
  • Work to support family involvement with schools.
  • Provide information to families regarding to afterschool and summer school programs.
  • Participate in regular school social worker staff meetings, staff training programs, McKinney Vento Homelessness consultations and accept the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Social Emotional Learning.

DAYS: Twelve Month Position

HOURS: Regular Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:45 am – 3:45 pm

Friday 7:45 am – 2:45 pm

Summer Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:45 am – 2:45 pm

Friday 7:45 am – 12:45 pm

SALARY: $62,690

BENEFITS: The City of Lynn offers comprehensive and competitive health and dental benefits; Harvard Pilgrim PPO/HMO, Altus Dental High/Low, and Vision. Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Plan (FSA) as well as Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability are available on a voluntary basis.

An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including a drug test, National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC), and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).

All MUST be completed PRIOR to the start of employment.
